Awesome Judge Starts 'Idiot' Shaming Sign Trend for Foolish Criminals (VIDEO)

Man holds idiot signDid you happen to hear about the Ohio woman who was sentenced by a judge to publicly hold a sign declaring herself as an idiot? Apparently she was caught on camera driving up on a sidewalk to pass a school bus -- as it was unloading kids! -- and the judge suspended her license, ordered her to pay $250 in court fees, and sentenced her to two days of standing in an intersection with a sign that read, "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."

So fantastic, right? Well, the world's most creatively cranky judge, Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Pinkey Carr, has struck again, this time in response to a 58-year-old man named Richard Dameron. It seems Dameron had been making 911 calls in which he threatened to kill police officers, and his punishment ... well, if you guessed Dameron has been spending the week holding up a hand-lettered apology for "being an idiot," you win a Kewpie doll.

Dameron was sentenced to 90 days in jail for threatening police officers with his bogus 911 calls, but that wasn't all -- Judge Carr also decreed that once Dameron fulfilled his jail sentence, he'd need to stand outside the district police station for three hours each day for a week holding a confessional sign.

He began his vigil on Monday, with a sign reading:

I apologize to Officer Simone & all police officers for being an idiot calling 911 threatening to kill you. I'm sorry and it will never happen again.

Here's a video of Judge Carr's second "idiot sign" punishment in action:

This story doesn't have quite the same ring of poetic justice as the lady who drove on a damn sidewalk to get around a school bus, but it's still pretty great. I don't know if we eventually want to live in a world where everyone stands around holding shaming signs ("I took the last of the breakroom coffee and didn't make a new pot!" "I poked an avocado in the grocery store so hard it got squishy and then I didn't buy it!"), but I'm a fan of Judge Carr's technique. His criminals get the regular punishments, and then a little something extra -- maybe just enough to make them make better choices in the future.

As Dameron said,

I'll stand up and be a man and do what I've got to do and get it over with. I get drunk a lot of times and I make a fool out of myself.

Here's hoping he remembers this week of sign-holding and disconnects his phone next time he goes on a bender.

What do you think of this judge's 'idiot sign' punishments?
