NFL Cheerleader & Iraq Vet Deserves Some Sympathy for Her Violence

One military member survived Iraq only to come home and find danger lurking in her boyfriend's cellphone in the form of a "flirty" message to his ex. That's no way to treat a soldier, sir! Megan Welter, who spent 16 months overseas and led a platoon in Iraq, and who is now a cheerleader for the Arizona Cardinals, must have felt she was back in the line of fire when she read the cutesy text her boyfriend sent to a woman. The woman had sent him a picture of a dog, and the boyfriend had responded: "Are you trying to turn me on with a girl dog?" Hmm. Not sure what that means exactly, but it's never a good idea to write the words "turn me on" to another woman -- especially when your girlfriend is in the Army!

Police were called to Megan's home when she dialed 911 to report that her boyfriend was assaulting her. However, when cops got there, they arrested Megan instead -- because it was the boyfriend who had scratches and bruises. Oh, and he also had video that he'd taken with his cellphone of Megan clawing him and repeatedly asking, "Who is she? Who is she? Who is she?" In the video, Megan is clearly the aggressor, yet she called 911 and told the operator that HE was the aggressor. Oh yeah, she also cut up his photo ID and credit card.

Speaking of which, the video of Megan's attack is online. Sheesh, what's up with private arguments being put online these days? Is nothing sacred anymore?!

The boyfriend, however, is not pressing charges. And he had some very nice things to say about Megan. He told 3TV:

People make mistakes, no one is perfect. I honestly want the best for her and I hope that this doesn't take away from the good things that she has done for both the NFL, as well as the service to our country.

That's pretty forgiving, isn't it? Let's face it, she probably went through a lot in Iraq and might be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder or other issues.

That doesn't excuse her resorting to violence against her boyfriend -- but perhaps she just deserves a break here. I really, really hope she gets some professional help. It would NOT be right for a male vet to scratch and pull the hair of a female, and it is not right for a female to do it.

Megan sounds like she's in a lot of pain and needs help. And hopefully she and her boyfriend stay away from each other because they sound like a toxic combination.

Do you think she needs help or jail?
