Mom Accused of Trying to Kill Kids to Protect Them From … Divorce?!

Heidi Mann A Wisconsin mom stands accused of trying to kill four of her six kids so they could go to heaven together instead of dealing with the aftermath of her divorce. Cops say Heidi S. Mann thought her kids would have a hard time dealing with the split. For most parents, that means hiring a counselor or maybe some more one-on-one time.

But cops say Mann decided to load the kids into the car in an enclosed garage and let the engine run for about two hours! The alleged plan was to asphyxiate them with carbon monoxide.

Fortunately, it didn't work.

The kids are OK. Mom is facing four counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide that could put her in jail for a max of 240 years in prison if she's convicted.

Further proof that good intentions don't necessary mean you're doing the right thing?

We all want to think that if you do something for the right reasons, it makes it OK. Unfortunately, the cliches are wrong. The right reasons can lead you down a path of pain just as easily.

This sad case is proof positive.

Mann thought she was doing the right thing for her kids, but if the charges are right, it was anything but.

Divorce IS hard, especially when you have kids. But hundreds of thousands of kids have been through it, and they have survived. Trying to spare them as much pain as you can is understandable, even laudable. But killing them is not the answer.

Have you been through a divorce? How did you help your kids get through it?
