2-Year-Old Sexually Assaulted & Great Grandparents Murdered While Parents Out Seeing a Movie

broken windowAuthorities are saying it's one of the worst attacks in state history, and after you hear the stomach-churning details, you'll find it hard to imagine anything worse. Twenty-four-year-old Jerry Andrew Active has been charged with breaking into an Anchorage, Alaska home and sexually assaulting a 2-year-old and her great-grandmother who was babysitting her. He then allegedly murdered the great-grandmother and her husband in the home, then took a seat on their couch.

Active was reportedly found in his boxer shorts relaxing in the home when the 2-year-old's parents returned from taking their 5-year-old son to the movies. He is said to have fled as soon as he heard the family come home, but the dad (the child's father and the grandson-in-law of the victims) chased after him and while his wife (the child's mom) called the cops.

Active was taken into custody a few blocks away. The judge set his bail at $1.5 million. The 2-year-old was rushed to the hospital where she underwent surgery for her injuries.

As if two murders and a sexual assaults on an elderly person and a toddler weren't bad enough, unfortunately it gets worse: the attack is believed to be totally random. Active didn't know the family, nor did they know him -- in homicide cases, the victim knows their murderer 80 to 90 percent of the time. Random crimes like these are extremely rare.

That said, Active, believe it or not, has a history of random attacks. In 2009 he was accused of sneaking into a home and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl while the family slept. In 2010 and 2011, he served time for attempted sexual abuse of a minor and is on probation until 2014.

He had registered as a sex offender, but evidently, he was able to roam free. And strike again.

Shouldn't this guy have been locked up for longer? Why is it that Martha Stewart was incarcerated for six months and on house arrest for two years while Active, a child sex offender, got off easier. How is it that a white collar crime is more harshly punished than a sex offender's crimes? Had Active been involved in some insider trading scandal, perhaps our penal system would've kept an eye on him. But since he was only charged with sexually abusing a minor ...

Now that Active's purportedly sexually abused a toddler to the point of required surgery, sexually assaulted a great-grandmother, and killed her and her husband, maybe now he'll be locked up, for good.

Can you believe this guy was walking around free?
