Baby's Ashes Stolen in Burglary Leaving Grieving Parents Devastated (VIDEO)

Hughey familyA Georgia couple came home one night last week to find their home burglarized. Horrible enough, but the Hugheys were devastated to find the thieves had made off with more than just a few pieces of jewelry. Also missing: a silver box containing the ashes of their baby boy, Caleb Ean Hughey, whom they lost at birth in 2008.

Just when you think this story can't get any sadder, it does.

The Hugheys struggle with infertility, so they haven't been able to have another baby.

I burst into tears when I he said, "To us, he is our only son ... and it's very important we get him back." Augh! My heart just goes out to these people. Grief comes in many shapes and sizes -- something I know all too well. Some people might not understand why you'd want to keep ashes like that; some might feel better having their loved ones buried in a cemetery, or scattered in the beautiful ocean or buried under a rosebush. Options like that are equally valid, but the Hugheys obviously find it most comforting to keep the baby they never really got to know, but obviously loved so much, close by, right in the home where they once dreamed he'd grow up.

What a truly terrible thing to happen. It's just heartbreaking, and I am hoping against hope that the thief isn't a completely horrible person; that he just didn't realize what he had taken, but has a heart and finds a way to get that precious box back to where it belongs. It's worth so little to anyone else, and the world to the Hugheys.

I'm not a religious person, per se, but I will say a prayer that this couple gets their precious baby back.

Can you imagine going through something like this?
