Man Confesses to Murdering Teen Because Victim’s Mom Was 'Haunting' Him (VIDEO)

steven goffA 41-year-old man from New Jersey has recently confessed to the 1990 murder of a 15-year-old boy, because the boy's mother has apparently been haunting the man in his sleep for the past 23 years. Steven Goff has now been charged for the murder of Frederick "Ricky" Hart, in which he allegedly stabbed the teen multiple times with a knife in the woods. No motive has been revealed yet.

According to Alan Rickel, a friend of Goff's, Goff had been on edge for the past few weeks. "He said he'd been living with this since he was 18 having nightmares. He sees the kid's mother in nightmares, saying, 'How can you do this to my family?' He had a 1,000 pound elephant sitting on his chest. He said that he had to confess, to tell the truth, and meet his maker," Rickel told ABC. Before making his confession, Goff told Rickel: "Something's eating at me. Everyone will find out sooner or later. It's going to shock everybody."

Initially when Goff confessed, police didn't believe him. But when he began divulging specific details that were in a sealed file, authorities had enough information to indict him. He now faces one count of murder and one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Clearly, Goff's confession isn't going to absolve him of the heinous crime he committed. He murdered a boy who had his whole life ahead of him, and broke a family's collective heart. That can never be undone. But the fact that he confessed to the crime 23 years later, after he was "in the clear" and obviously could have gone free says something. Steven Goff may be a "monster", but he actually has a conscience.

Nothing will ever be able to bring back Ricky Hart. And nothing will ever be able to undo the pain and sadness his mother feels. But perhaps -- hopefully -- hearing Goff's confession and remorse will help bring some closure to this awful situation. And hopefully the punishment Goff is dealth is fit.

What do you think of this?
