Reeva Steenkamp's Father Could Forgive Oscar Pistorius for Killing His Daughter Under 1 Condition

oscar pistoriusNo matter what the outcome, yesterday had to have been a rough day for the parents of Reeva Steenkamp, the beautiful, young model who was shot and killed by her boyfriend, Olympic runner, Oscar Pistorius. Pistorius was freed on bail after a judge was ruled that he needn't be locked up until he's to undergo trial for the murder of Steenkamp.

Barry Steenkamp, Reeva's father, spoke with a newspaper after the decision was made, and he shockingly said that one day, he may be able to forgive Pistorius for shooting and killing his 29-year-old daughter -- under one condition.

Steenkamp told a South African newspaper that if Oscar is telling the truth, and he did mistakenly shoot Reeva, thinking she was an intruder, he could possibly one day forgive him. But he added that Pistorius will have to "live with his conscious" if he's lying about what took place, and he'll have to "suffer" alone.

It's always amazing to me when the family members of victims are able to forgive -- or at least consider forgiving -- a person who killed someone they love. Of course, sometimes these awful things that happen are genuine accident, but I don't know, it seems like the hardest thing in the world to look someone who took your family member's life in the eyes and say: I forgive you. I'm not sure I'd be able to do that.

For now, Reeva's parents are, understandably, still in shock and mourning -- and many details of this case are still unclear. But the fact that Mr. Steenkamp even possesses the ability to say he may one day be able to forgive Pistorius shows the kind of person he is. And, also, it shows the kind of person Reeva probably was.

Do you think Oscar Pistorius is guilty?
