Jessica Ridgeway’s Alleged Murderer Now Charged With Sexual Abuse, Too

austin reed siggThere's a disturbing new development in the Jessica Ridgeway case. Austin Reed Sigg, the 17-year-old who was arrested after turning himself in for her abduction and death, faced a judge Wednesday and was charged with two new counts. He already faced 17 counts, which covered first degree murder and second degree kidnapping, but the court just added sexual assault and criminal violence during his preliminary hearing.

Sexual assault? Ugh, just when we thought things couldn't get any worse ...

The judge didn't allow media during the hearing, so we won't know until February what evidence there was to support these two added counts, but suffice it to say, whatever they have on Sigg will continue to make our skin crawl.

I mean, it was bad enough to read the details about his alleged obsession with death, about his alleged abduction, sexual assault, and attempted murder of a 22-year-old jogger, about the locations in which parts of Jessica's young body were found, and about his reported cold, penetrating stare.

Now, to learn that there is possibly a sexual assault component to the crime is almost too much. As if Jessica's final hours weren't horrific enough, we're now aware that they were likely even worse than originally thought.

We'll find out more on February 22 when there's another hearing, but if you're like me, you probably don't want to know too many more details about what Austin Reed Sigg might have done to a fifth grader on her way to school. Sometimes, it's just too much to process.

Are you surprised that Sigg's now being accused of sexual assault?
