It isn't rare for moms to kick back with a cocktail or a nice large glass of wine after a long day with the little ones. But for this celeb mom, alcohol is now a big no-no. Anne Hathaway is giving up drinking -- at least for the next 18 years -- because of her 2-year-old son Jonathan. Although a few parents are rolling their eyes at Anne's decision, for the most part she's being praised by folks who agree with this choice.

  • Anne credits a few bad experiences for her decision to give up alcohol -- like having a hangover while dropping off her son at school.

"I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school, I wasn't driving, but I was hung over and that was enough for me," she said about being hung over to Ellen DeGeneres while on her show, Entertainment Tonight reports. "I didn't love that one."

Anne also confessed she "drank the night away" with Matthew McConaughey while shooting Serenity. "I had to go to a meeting with Steven Knight, our director, the next day, and I was just kinda -- have you guys ever had to go to a meeting hungover?" she asked Ellen's audience.

"I was just kinda stumbling in with one eye open and I was trying to convince him about certain things about my character. And at the end of it I said, 'Listen, I have a confession. I was hung over the entire time.' And he just goes, 'Oh, really? I couldn't tell.' Then two days later we had another meeting and I showed up and [he] said, 'Oh, now I can tell.'"

  • Now, the actress is committed to staying sober until her son is an adult.

"I quit drinking back in October, for 18 years," the actress explains. "I'm going to stop drinking while my son is in my house just because I don't totally love the way I do it and he's getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings."
  • As it turns out, Anne isn't the only parent who has made this decision.

The reaction has been understanding as plenty of people said they, too, gave up drinking when they had kids.

  • Some think Anne recognized that she had an issue with drinking, which is why it's great she's giving it up.

Anne herself said she didn't love how she behaved when it came to alcohol, and although it's one heck of a commitment, it's a good one.

  • Also, it's important to remember that drinking alcohol is a choice, and it's perfectly fine to say no.

We pretty much all learned this in elementary school -- just say no! There are no rules that say someone has to drink.

  • Still, moms couldn't help but make jokes.

They told Anne to wait until Jonathan hits a certain age or she has another kid -- she'll probably want a drink then!

If Anne really is committed to sticking with her decision, she could try an alternative way to relax, such as meditation.

  • And a few thought her words were taken out of context.

Maybe she just meant while her son was literally home, meaning she'd be able to drink when he wasn't.

  • Either way, it sounds like the right choice to us!

We fully support any and all moms (dads, too) who make changes to their routines and lifestyle for the sake of their children.

    It only makes them stronger.
