Abbie Duggar Gets Real About Her Hyperemesis Gravidarum Diagnosis
Through her pregnancy, Abbie Duggar has been open about the fact that it hasn't been easy -- especially after she was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. And now, in a new clip from Counting On, Abbie's sharing her multiple ER visits thanks to her HG. Can this poor lady please catch a break?!
In the episode, Abbie was eight weeks pregnant, and shared that she'd spent most of that time in bed.
"I pretty much just been lying in bed, go to the bathroom and maybe to the couch," Abbie admitted, adding, "Morning sickness has hit me pretty hard."
Many pregnant moms have to cope with nausea and vomiting, especially in the first trimester, but moms with HG have an extreme version of that. And in Abbie's case, that meant she needed more help than just resting at home.
Abbie shared that she has been admitted to the hospital more than once for her HG.
That sucks -- but it can also be incredibly important, especially if Abbie's unable to keep food or liquid down. Being dehydrated and nauseous at the same time? It's miserable, not to mention bad for Abbie and the baby.
And sadly, it sounds like this made JD feel pretty helpless.
"It's definitely hard watching Abbie in pain, just wishing I could take it away, do something to help her," he said.
Still, Abbie remained positive -- even though she was going through something so difficult.
"At this point, I have to remind myself why I'm so sick," Abbie said. "It honestly hasn't been very enjoyable. I just keep saying, 'There's a baby coming! There's a baby coming! This has a good ending."
It's true -- at least she's sick for a good reason! And we have a feeling it'll all be worth it when she finally gets to meet her little one.
We sure hope Abbie's feeling better these days.
With her due date right around the corner, we can't wait to see her and John David become parents. We know they're going to rock at it!
We'll be thinking of this tough mama. She's almost made it to the finish line!
