As "average Janes" and celeb moms advocate for breastfeeding -- whenever and wherever -- it's almost guaranteed there will be some type of blowback. Some people might have an issue with seeing a mother nurse her child in public, whereas others might feel some type of grievance because of an unexpected reason. James Van Der Beek's photo of his wife breastfeeding comes with a heartfelt message to other women who also nurse their babies. It might be short but his message is very sweet, though it's turning a lot of heads -- including from mommies who are part of the collective and don't breastfeed their children.

  • James took to the 'Gram to share a pic of his wife, Kimberly, nursing their newest addition in effort to #normalizebreastfeeding.

"#Breastfeeding moms everywhere ... we salute you," James Van Der Beek writes in his Instagram post.

In addition to 1-month-old Gwendolyn, James and Kimberly are proud parents to Olivia, 7, Joshua, 6, Annabel, 4, and Emilia, 2.

Moms should be able to openly breastfeed like it's no big deal.

  • James even had a message for "non-breastfeeding moms" in case anyone might've felt some kind of way about his quest to normalize breastfeeding.

  • But some breastfeeding supporters can't understand why James needed to write a disclaimer in the first place.

  • And feel that being "pro-breastfeeding" isn't being "anti-formula feeding" and needs no other explanation.

  • Should all "pro-breastfeeding" messages come with a statement like this to not ruffle feathers?

Or should people understand that in their quest to #normalizebreastfeeding James and Kimberly aren't trying to throw a dig at moms who bottle feed?
