Kristin Cavallari Defends Herself Against Backlash Over Her Kids' 'Diet'

Kristin Cavallari

As a seasoned reality star, lifestyle guru, and mom of three, Kristin Cavallari really has no time for the haters. The Very Cavallari star made that perfectly clear in a new interview with People, in which she addressed criticism around her cookbook, True Roots: A Mindful Kitchen with More Than 100 Recipes Free of Gluten, Dairy, and Refined Sugar. Apparently, the book's clean eating philosophy led some to get all worked up about the way Kristin handles her kids' nutrition -- speculating the former Hills star put her kids on a diet.

  • "How I eat, I cook at home, and that's what they eat," Kristin shared.

In other words, the True Roots way of eating -- which, according to the book's description, means "organic as much as possible, wild-caught fish, grass-fed beef, fresh fruits and vegetables, and no white flour, sugar, or salt," as well as avoiding "anything heavily processed and anything that has been stripped of natural nutrients" -- is the way her sons Camden, 5, and Jaxon, 4, and daughter Saylor, 2, eat.

However, there are exceptions to those rules. "But we go out to breakfast every weekend," she told People. "They get donuts every weekend. It's not like they're on some stupid diet. They're kids."

  • If she sounds defensive, that's because this celeb mom gets constant criticism for her parenting decisions.

But she says she's not fazed by it.

"Getting backlash about anything I'm doing when it comes to parenting, I really don't give a sh*t about because I'm so confident at what I'm doing as a mom that I don't care," Cavallari noted.

  • As it turns out, a good number of parents across the interwebs stand with Kristin and her food choices for her kids.

    Yay for nonjudgmental comments!

  • Given Kristin's NFL hubby Jay Cutler has type 1 diabetes, this mama is even more committed to ensuring her family eats healthy.

    Touchdown, Kristin Cavallari.

  • Some folks questioned why Kristin even felt the need to defend herself if she truly "doesn't care."

Ya know, the Internet being the Internet.

  • Or, maybe because she was asked by a journalist?

  • But does she really need to give a reason to clap back at her critics?

With her new show premiering on E! come July 8, not to mention lots of other business and her kiddos to tend to, Kristin is likely far too busy to lose sleep over this silly judgmental chatter. Good for her for telling it like it is.
