As nursing mothers know, breastfeeding can be challenging, sweet, funny, empowering ... sometimes all on the same day! That's why we love when celebrity moms are open and honest about their experiences in this particular area of parenting. Not only do their social media shares and interview sound bites go a long way in helping to normalize breastfeeding, but they also help everyone to feel like they're a little less alone.

Tess Holliday

Model Tess Holliday got commenters all riled up (over nothing) when she posted this breastfeeding photo from a women's march. In true Tess Holliday fashion, however, she updated the caption to tell critics exactly what she thought of them:

Those saying that I should 'cover up' You mean when I'm breastfeeding MY baby who was a) hungry & b) screaming because he was overly tired & the crowd overloaded his senses & it was the only way to comfort him?! I will feed my child anywhere I want. Also CA state law protects me to do so. Keep your uneducated opinions off my body.

When a baby's got to eat, a baby's got to eat.

Alyssa Milano

Breastfeeding advocate and mother-of-two Alyssa Milano didn't back down when talk show host Wendy Williams complained about moms who breastfeed in public.

"Biologically, [breasts are] not made for sexual things. That's what we've done to them," she explained to Williams.

Milano added, "But you have to realize that, all over the world, you're [Wendy] not the norm."

Milano is absolutely right -- in plenty of other places on the planet, breastfeeding moms aren't shamed for feeding in public! We need to print out her words and carry them with us.

There's far too much judgment in the mommy zone. Karolina Kurkova acknowledged that breastfeeding isn't always easy for every mom and expressed her gratitude that it finally worked out for her in the caption for this Instagram post:

Taking a moment today to give thanks for the gift of breastfeeding Nature had things figured out long before we did and I believe there is no better source of nutrition for our babies than a mother’s milk, when we are able to breastfeed. It’s not an easy process, but I encourage you to not give up! It was challenging for me at the start, but I am loving every step of this journey. I celebrate the women who have made this beautiful commitment!!

Back when her son Arthur was a baby, actress Selma Blair spoke out about public breastfeeding and why people need to just deal with it.

"The only time he cries is if he's hungry," she said. "We all have nipples. I don't care who I offend; my baby wants to eat. If I can't get a cover over me quick enough, so be it."

Preach!

Pink

Singer and mother-of-two Pink has never been one to pull punches. So when a stranger in a restaurant gave her a hard time for nursing her then 15-month-old son (even though she was trying to cover up), she naturally gave him a big old piece of her mind:

"This guy walks by, and he was like, 'Ughhh,'" she said on the British talk show Alan Carr: Chatty Man

"He was just disgusted ... I was like, 'You didn't get enough hugs when you were little.'"

Right??

Kristen Bell

Mom-of-two Kristen Bell was hilariously honest with Seth Meyers about how she made it seem like her character in the movie CHiPS got breast implants -- she skipped pumping IRL for a day.

I was like, 'My craft deserves it. I gotta do it. I'm a serious actor' ... I was breastfeeding at the time. I wanted my character to have an aggressive boob job, like it's the only thing you can think about when you see someone. ...

So I didn't pump for a full day. And I said to the kids, 'Daddy's making a movie, go to the fridge, the food truck is closed.'

Who needs a padded bra when you've got engorged boobs?

Hilaria Baldwin

Mom-of-three Hilaria Baldwin let moms know that even though she's a breastfeeding mom, she respects all kinds of mothers in her heartfelt National Breastfeeding Week post:

Rafa's favorite spot. There is no one right way to feed our babies, but this week marks #nationalbreastfeedingweek and I would like to extend my support to mothers who have taken this path. In the end, regardless of our methods, #AllMommiesUnite and whatever way we love and nurture our children is beautiful, perfect and inspiring

Truth: A milk-soaked T-shirt is the unofficial breastfeeding mom uniform, as Amber Tamblyn discovered in this perfectly sarcastic post, which she captioned:

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde got slammed (by some) for looking too sexy in this breastfeeding shot for Glamour magazine, which haters said portrayed nursing in an unrealistic light. But the actress and now mother-of-two refused to apologize, saying:

"I was shocked that there were still people who find it inappropriate because they think it's a sexual thing. I think that says a lot about them."

Couldn't have said it better ourselves!
