Katie Holmes Opens Up About the Bittersweet Reality of Parenting

As if we didn't already know the bond this mother-daughter duo shares is unbreakable, actress Katie Holmes reveals her poignant and all-too-true thoughts on wanting to spend every moment with Suri. In an interview with Town & Country, the single mom says her little girl -- who is growing up before our eyes -- will always come ahead of her career, especially as the 10-year-old "gets a little further away" from her "every day."

The stunning 38-year-old got real about the bittersweet reality of watching children grow. She told the mag:

Every day, kids get a little further away from you. That's a positive thing. They should be becoming more independent, but it's heartbreaking. You want them to stay with you forever, but they're these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need -- and then they're going to go. And that's going to be very, very sad for me.

She's so right. Of course, it's totally normal for kids to want to spend more time with friends and pursue their own interests as they grow, and while it makes you proud as a parent, it can also break your heart a little. 

It's awesome that this mom is wise enough to savor every second she has with her precious mini-me. The former Mrs. Tom Cruise puts her daughter ahead of everything.

"My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now," she told Town & Country.

As many parents know, it's easy to get caught up in work and other interests, and for a Hollywood star, that could be especially tempting. So it's particularly sweet to see that Katie, who is extremely close with her own mom, is making the most of every moment with her daughter. 

Something tells us that Katie has nothing to fear. From the way these two seem together, we have a feeling they'll always be BFFs, no matter what stage of life they're in or where their careers take them.
