For the life of me, I will never understand why people feel it in their hearts to be so vile and nasty and just disrespectful to others -- especially mothers. Regardless of whether you love or loathe comedian Jess Hilarious's "controversial" mother-son pics in the nude with her 4-year-old boy, referring to someone as a "whore" because you disagree with her photographs just isn't the way ... and yet, here we are.

People have a lot to say about Jess's Instagram photos that show the Baltimore native with her little boy wearing nothing but matching pairs of Air Jordan sneakers. (For the record, Jess's son is wearing shorts, too.)

Though some thought the images are harmless, there are others -- including retired NBA player Gilbert Arenas and comedian Corey Holcomb -- who let their disdain for the mom's photo shoot be known.

In an Instagram post that's been deleted, Gilbert Arenas pointed out the double standard of a mother's taking a nude photo with her son and how much of an uproar there would be for a father who dared to do the same thing with his daughter. The former pro-baller also believes "there are certain things you can't do to boys" -- and how allowing little boys to participate in pictures like this can make them soft, possibly gay.

"LADIES if u had to choose either ur son being #gay or ur daughter having sex at 10, which do you choose?" Arenas questioned in his Instagram comment. ".... You [can't identify] with him [due] to the fact he has ur traits, so u tend to raise ur boys soft becauz it's cute that he shows emotions and affection ..."

While Arenas does tip his hat to Jess's being one of the #lovingmothers trying to raise her child (that's nice ... right?), comedian Corey Holcomb unleashed a series of tweets alluding to Mom's being a "whore" for posting such a photo -- and Jess's son growing up to be a "b*tch" as a result of his participation.

"This is a part of what's wrong with black America!" Holcomb wrote. "These whores want their sons to be b*tches. F*cking disgusting."

And sadly, Corey's tirade did not stop there.

Needless to say, comedian Jess Hilarious responded to Holcomb's comments on Instagram ... and let's just say they're NSFW -- as if any of these comments really are.

... Lord, where do you even start with something like this? For starters, let's not try to have a civilized discussion about black America while using words like "whore" and "b*tch" in the same sentence. Yeah, that might be a good place to start ...

Jess is certainly not the first mother to take photos like this with her child, and while I don't foresee myself following in her footsteps with my 3- and 1½-year-old boys (it's just not my cup of tea), deciding this mom's 4-year-old boy will "become gay" as a result -- or referring to Jess as a "whore" -- is just so wrong. All of it is so, so wrong in so many ways.

Are these photos "controversial"? Yeah, I can see some people clutching their pearls at them. But are they pornographic? Most certainly not.

While I do agree there is a double standard regarding photos mothers can take with their kids versus fathers (does anyone remember the backlash Perez Hilton received for his shower selfie with his little boy?), it seems there's also an assumption that little boys will automatically "turn gay" if they show their sensitive side, wear the color pink, fancy dolls, or whatever else that doesn't fall in line with the gender stereotypes -- which is just so wrong and speaks to real ignorance.

Have we really come to a point in our society where expressing our differences means calling someone out by his or her name?
