We've all seen celebrity moms bask in the glow of their pregnancies before giving birth, and then step out into the public eye shortly after -- completely flawless and ready for their close-ups -- without missing a beat. *Gag.* The truth is that postpartum recovery is a bitch, and a mother's physique don't always look camera-ready so quickly. That's why we're applauding Dancing With the Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd's relatable post-baby body selfie and honest message to new moms that scores tens across the board.

The 30-year-old dancer and her fiancé, fellow Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy, just welcomed their son, Shai Aleksander, into the world on January 4. And like most new celebrity moms, Peta took to Instagram ... but she shared a first post-baby body selfie that's so unexpected and out of the ordinary! And which will hopefully remind new moms struggling to love their bodies that you don't have to be snatched to be beautiful.

"Real life: I took this photo 8 days post birth. I left the hospital looking 5 months pregnant," Peta captions. She continues:

Many people think a woman should shrink right back to her pre-birth weight immediately. That is just not the truth for most. The female body is incredible and resilient, but healing and strengthening take time. Now it's time for patience and hard work. Lots of love to all the new mamas out there on the journey.

Yes, girl! All of this!!

For the sake of my own sanity and trying to stay in my own lane, I try not to compare myself to celebrities ... but there's something about Peta's photo and message that makes me smile.

Peta's photo is honest, unapologetic, and, more importantly, beautiful -- including that '80s-style scrunchie. I don't know if we've seen a celebrity with Peta's physique look so freaking relatable and like she didn't push out every ounce of her pregnancy weight with her placenta.

Like Peta, I looked like I was five months pregnant after having both of my kiddos (they're now 3 and 1½). And as much as I told myself it was silly to focus so much on my postpartum weight, I did -- because I felt urgency to "get back to normal."

And I wish I had more examples of mommies keeping it real than those who also felt the pressure to bounce back sooner rather than later.

Maybe Peta's message isn't a big deal to some ... and maybe it's the tiny reminder a struggling new mom needed to hear today.

As Peta mentions in her Instagram post, her son Shai is worth every pound. All of our babies are.
