As moms, we spend most days struggling to get through our to-do lists and being stretched way too thin. We've got jobs, chores, preschool class parties, and many of us haven’t had a decent haircut or a pedicure in approximately 7 million years. Still, if you ask most of us what's sitting at the top of our self-care wish lists, we’d tell you it's a night out with our best friend. We all need and deserve that really awesome mom friend who's seen us in sweatpants, doesn't care if our house is a mess, and knows exactly which drawer we keep the bottle opener in. That’s why the relationship between Busy Philipps and Michelle Williams is giving us major #friendshipgoals.

Williams and Philipps first met on the set of Dawson's Creek in the early 2000s. Since then, they've weathered marriages, losses, and the births of their kids. At a recent screening for Williams' new movie, Manchester By The Sea, they talked to Vanity Fair about how long they've been besties and exactly what they mean to each other.

“I’m so in love with her,” Williams said of Philipps, whom she brought as her date. ”She’s proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man! That’s the love of my life right there.”

Philipps later reciprocated the love when she shared this hilarious throwback photo on Instagram.

“I love that we almost always stand on the same side of each other,” Philipps wrote. “Also, can I just say-we aren't at a costume party in 2001. That's legit how we were dressed for a regular night out. I guess I really was my character from Cougartown? And thank God my eyebrows grew back.”

Here's another one of Busby's Instagrams, showing the besties as each others' dates for the Cristic's Choice Awards:

It was Carrie Bradshaw on Sex And The City who famously said that our friends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with. Philipps and Williams definitely embody that kind of unconditional sisterly love, and I have to admit, I’m a little bit jealous.

If there’s one thing I wasn’t prepared for when I became a mom, it’s how lonely and isolating motherhood can be. Between work, our children, marriage, and family obligations, having a social life often seems like an afterthought as we attempt to navigate the tricky world of modern motherhood. Sure, there are dozens of playgroups and “mommy and me” classes you can attend, but who really has time for deep connections when you’re trying to keep a rowdy toddler from sticking their freshly sucked thumb directly into the nearest light socket?

For most of us, maintaining friendships takes real work, and it’s not always easy to find the energy to meet up with your friends when you’d rather curl up in your pajamas and go to bed. But, if there’s one thing we can take away from Williams and Philipps’ intense bestie love affair, it’s that friends are some of the most important people in our lives, and nurturing great friendships should always be a priority.

Every mom needs someone in her life who makes her laugh, totally “gets” what she’s going through, and who maybe even saw her through her terrible 90s eyebrow phase like Michelle Williams. As the year draws to a close and we’re all busy reflecting on the people we love most, let’s take a cue from the Williams-Philipps union and make sure our best friends know that they’re totally our soulmates.
