32 Celebrity Parents Who Keep Their Kids Out of the Spotlight
Many celebrities who have no problem sharing the most intimate details of their lives. We could likely list any Kardashian sister’s dating history off the top of our heads. We live for Chrissy Teigen's updates on life with John Legend and photos of Luna and Miles -- especially if they're in formalwear. Heck, Amy Schumer has even posted videos of herself literally throwing up while pregnant. (It really doesn't get much more detailed that that. We're practically BFFs at this point.)
Still, for every star who chooses to overshare, there are also a handful who manage to stay off the grid, saying "I do" in secret or welcoming a baby without anyone's knowledge. Typically, these the same people who say no to sharing photos of their kids with the world.
Now that we think about it, there are actually quite a few actors, actresses, musicians, and even reality stars who've managed to keep their kids out of the spotlight. Sure, it can be a bit of a bummer (yes, the curiosity is killing us), but the decision is 10,000 percent understandable. These kids didn't ask to be famous, they just happened to be born with well-known parents. At this point, we don't even know what their faces look like, so with a quick name change, they could probably stay private forever!
Many famous 'rents keep so quiet when it comes to their offspring, they barely even mention them in interviews -- which probably takes some restraint on their part, especially if they're a proud parent. Others choose to share (sparingly) and often block their kiddos' faces with strategically placed emojis when they do choose to share.
We're crossing our fingers for the day the paparazzi stop following them to the grocery store so celebs don't feel the need to retreat to the middle of nowhere for a little privacy.
Hey, if anything, it worked out pretty well for Katherine Schwarzenegger!
Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher
As much as they joke (maybe it isn't a joke) about their kids not inheriting their money when they get older, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher adore their kids and fight to keep them out of the public eye.
"We don't share any photos of our kids publicly because we feel that being public is a personal choice," the celeb dad once revealed about keeping his kids private, adding "future privacy will be the new celebrity."
"My wife and I have chosen a career where we're in the public light, but my kids have not so I think they have the right to choose that. I actually don't think that they should have images of them as children that somebody could potentially blackmail with or do whatever. It's their private life, it's not mine to give away ... Your social profile is yours to create not for someone else to create for you."
Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard
We've heard stories about Lincoln and Delta, but as for their faces? They'll likely be blurred forever. This couple has publicly spoken out about keeping their kids private, and it's something that's super important to them.
"I'm telling you right now, we don't want our daughter's face anywhere ever until she decides because I have the utmost respect for her," Kristen Bell said on Access Hollywood, explaining their "no kids" policy.
Diane Kruger & Norman Reedus
Right after Diane gave birth to their baby girl, the paparazzi began following her in hopes of capturing a glimpse of the newborn’s face. She opted to call them out on Instagram, saying "While we understand that some people would like to see a picture of our daughter, we as parents want nothing more than allow her to grow up in privacy and safety." She urged fans to put themselves in her shoes.
Emily Blunt & John Krasinski
When daughter Hazel was born in 2014, John shared a single photo on Twitter with the caption, "Pics of kids should only come direct from parents. So I'm thrilled to introduce you guys to Hazel!!! #NoKidsPolicy."
More recently, we've heard about Hazel and her sister Violet's American accents through interviews, with John Krasinski and Emily Blunt sharing some silly stories here and there. But so far, no more photos have been posted.
Jenny Mollen & Jason Biggs
Jason and his author-actress-influencer wife, Jenny Mollen, are very active on Instagram. Yet, even with all that they post, they take the time to block out their sons Sid and Laz's faces -- except for one Parents magazine shoot.
"I don't post Sid's face bc my account is public and not only do I not want him recognized, harassed or interrupted in his daily life," Jenny wrote on Instagram in 2018. "I also don't think its fair to expose him without his knowledge and understanding."
Tyra Banks
So far, we've gotten one real photo of Tyra's son, York, and that may be all we'll get until he ultimately follows his mom into the modeling world -- fingers crossed. She does, however, give fans hints to what York looks like, captioning this pic "Lookin' like my son."
Guess we'll take her word for it!
Jessica Biel & Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have no issue sharing pics of Silas -- on vacation, watching his dad perform, celebrating Halloween. But they make sure that his head is turned ever-so-slightly, or that he's wearing a mask, so the public never gets a good look at his face.
America Ferrera
Sebastian was born in May 2018. But so far, we've only gotten a few tiny peeks at the little one, such as the top of his head or this blocked-out pic of America breastfeeding.
Adele
Adele leads such a private personal life that people are literally out there putting together clues about how she raises her son, Angelo. (Apparently, she uses a reward chart, and eagle-eyed fans noticed in the background of this photo.) Aside from a few paparazzi shots from the airport -- which the singer did not look happy about -- we still have no clue what her little one looks like.
Sandra Bullock
The paparazzi was so bent on getting a photo of Sandra with her babies, that they almost ruined Sandra's chance at finally adopting her daughter, Laila. For safety alone, it's understandable why the actress decided not to show her kids' faces in a People magazine shoot, and also why, whenever the family is spotted out together, both of the kids are usually wearing sunglasses.
Leighton Meester & Adam Brody
Leighton enjoys keeping her public and private life separate -- and that includes her daughter, Arlo.
"I don't talk about Arlo very much," she told Refinery29 in 2017. "I am very proud of that area of my life." She added that she feels people tend to think "you’re an ingenue, or you're an icon, or you’re a mom. There's no in between."
January Jones
One scroll through January's Instagram, and it's easy to forget she actually has a son, Xander. The actress opts to not share photos of him and, while she does talk about motherhood on occasion -- such as how it's affected her dating life -- we doubt she'll be bringing the little boy to events (or even talking about who his dad is) anytime soon.
Catelynn Lowell & Tyler Baltierra
Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling
Aside from the occasional award show shoutout and thoughts about returning to work, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are tight-lipped when it comes to family life. Esmeralda and Amada still remain private, and the couple tries their best to keep their kids away from prying paparazzi.
Pharrell
Forget about what Pharrell's triplets look like -- we still don't even know their names! The most he's spoken about them is when he revealed they harmonize when they cry, which sounds ... fun?
Nicole Richie & Joel Madden
Sure, we've seen Harlow and Sparrow Madden before, but if Nicole and Joel can help it, they keep them out of the limelight. Even sweet family vacation photos get covered up with fake sunglasses, and at ages 9 and 11, it's entirely possible that the kids themselves want it this way.
Alexis Bledel
It took us months to find out about Alexis's son with former costar-turned-husband Vincent Kartheiser, and when we did, it was only because her former Gilmore Girls costar spilled the beans. It seems like the actress really wants her little boy (whose name is still unknown) to stay hidden, and so far, she's succeeding.
Benedict Cumberbatch
The actor and his wife, Sophie Hunter, aren't exactly sending out full family updates. When Sophie debuted her bump with baby number three on the red carpet, it was a surprise to everyone. So far, they haven't released any photos of their first two children, Christopher and Hal, so it's safe to say we won't see their third child, either.
