Zika Virus Outbreak Might Put Jill Duggar's Pregnancy Plans on Hold

Derick and Jill (Duggar) Dillard

With so much troubling news about the Zika virus outbreak -- and the likeliness of the virus spreading throughout the Americas -- some Duggar fans are concerned about Jill (Duggar) Dillard and any possible baby plans she might have to get pregnant while in an infected area.

To clarify, Jill and her husband Derick aren't pregnant (that we know of), but that isn't stopping people from thinking about the possibility, and whether or not it's a good idea right now.

The 24-year-old has made it no secret that she would love to have more children -- and while there have been past rumors of her being pregnant (obviously they weren't true), should the Dillards want to keep on counting, they might want to wait until they reach stateside this summer.

As you know, Jill, Derick, and baby Israel are in El Salvador on a mission trip. Just recently, officials in the Central American country -- along with others in the region -- recommended that women hold off on getting pregnant until 2018. And as crazy as that sounds, it might be for good reason.

The Zika virus disease is spread through mosquito bites. Surfacing in Brazil, the outbreak has quickly spread throughout Latin America, with new cases confirmed in the United Kingdom. The CDC has issued a travel alert for pregnant women as it can potentially affect an unborn baby's heath -- including causing the birth defect microcephaly.

Now, I'm sure Jill and her family have been in constant communication. Sadly, the best thing you can do when something like this happens (outside of leaving the area) is to pray for the best. Hopefully the Dillards and others in the area stay safe during this time.

It's beyond awful to think about a disease spreading like this, but unfortunately, it happens. My husband's family is from Panama (they're still there), so we're hoping everyone stays safe!

Be well, Dillards!
