Madonna Fires Back at Critics of Her Parenting Skills (PHOTO)

madonnaMadonna is clearly getting fed up with being blasted for her parenting skills after all the fuss over her 15-year-old son Rocco wanting to spend the holidays with his dad, Guy Ritchie, instead of his mom: The 57-year-old star posted a throwback photo to Instagram with a pro–single mom message that seemed targeted directly at her critics!

The shot is a sweet throwback pic featuring the singer cuddling with her four kids (Lourdes, 19, Rocco, 15, David Banda, 10, and Mercy, 9), and the caption reads:

"It's possible to be an entertainer and a good mother! Too bad we don't live in a society where many encourage strong independent single working moms! The next great frontier!"

More from The Stir: Madonna's 15-Year-Old Shouldn't Be Forced to Spend Christmas With Her

Now, naturally, I have no personal knowledge of Madonna's family life and don't really know what's going on between her and Rocco (and Guy Ritchie). But I do think that the criticism she's been receiving (that she's too controlling as a mom and that Rocco hates being dragged along on tour, mostly) over this whole custody mess lately has been somewhat unfair. Okay, so her 15-year-old kid wanted to spend Christmas with his dad instead of her. He's 15! There are plenty, plenty of days out of every year any given 15-year-old would prefer NOT to spend with his mom, and I'm talking about 15-year-olds from completely average, normal, "happy" families. When it comes to teenage preferences and moods, all bets are off -- and it would be that way even if Madonna were a stay-at-home mom whose biggest extravagance was a weekly Zumba class. So to blame her career for her family troubles, while an obvious connection to make, also seems slightly reductive, if not downright anti-feminist.

Here's hoping this whole mess gets sorted out in the new year! (If family dramas ever really get sorted out at all, that is.)
