Kim Kardashian Had Serious Complications During Saint West's Birth

kim kardashianBefore her son, Saint West, was born, Kim Kardashian was open about her fears about giving birth again. Her pregnancy, and birth, with daughter North wasn't easy due to a condition called placenta accreta. And as it turns out, despite Saint reportedly being in perfectly good health, Kim had placenta accreta again this time. Yikes.

A source told People that "Kim had a really tough birth because of issues with her placenta." Placenta accreta is when the placenta grows too deeply into the uterus -- and it's not something to be taken lightly. Kim revealed that with North's birth, she didn't naturally deliver her placenta, as most women do. A doctor had to scrape it out by hand, and unsurprisingly, Kim described it as "the most painful experience of her life."

Unfortunately, when you have placenta accreta once, the odds of having it again are pretty high. Sources say that despite Kim having a vaginal birth, doctors needed an extra two hours to deal with the placenta issues. There's also a chance that Kim will wind up needing a hysterectomy. "They think I'll have placenta accreta again, so if the placenta grows a little bit deeper than it did last time, then they are prepared to have my uterus removed, which is a little scary for me," Kim revealed a few weeks ago.

Terrifying.

Thankfully, it sounds like everyone is doing OK after the ordeal, but it's no wonder Kim had so much anxiety leading up to her birth: Placenta accreta isn't something to be taken lightly. Glad to hear mom and baby are in good health.
