Jenna Bush Gives Her Baby a Name That Honors George H. W. Bush

jenna bush henry hagerBush baby on board! Jenna Bush Hager and husband Henry welcomed their baby girl into the world -- and they've given her a bold, bouncy name: Poppy Louise.

The name honors numerous family members.

"Poppy is named after Jenna's grandfather, George Herbert Walker 'Poppy' Bush, a.k.a. Gampy," the couple said in a statement. "His nickname growing up was Poppy, and we are proud to name her after a man we so adore. Louise is in honor of our grandmothers' middle names, Louise and Lewis."

I hafta say, family ties aside, it's a great name. It's got panache! Although it's never ranked in the top 1,000, I could easily see it getting there.

The reason? It's the name of a flower, which is always nice. But it's much spunkier than, say, Rose or Daisy.

The name also has some notable predecessors: Australian Without a Trace star Poppy Montgomery; American novelist Poppy Z. Brite; English model and socialite Poppy Delevingne.

Plus, more than a few famous parents chose this moniker for their own daughters, including actresses Jessica Capshaw and Anna Paquin.

Meanwhile, middle name Louise has a bit more flow -- and weight. It means "famous warrior" with royal roots in Sweden, Denmark, France, and England, where Queen Elizabeth has a granddaughter named Louise through her son Prince Edward.

And, of course, many will remember the movie Thelma and Louise. Fine, they may drive off a cliff in the end, but they're still strong, feminist women with lots of guts!

So all in all, we say thumbs up to this strong, spunky name.
