Ryan Reynolds Can't Even Make a Joke About Baby James Anymore

Once celebrities become parents, it seems like every move they make invites scrutiny. New dad Ryan Reynolds made headlines a few weeks ago when his wife, Blake Lively, posted a photo of him wearing his baby incorrectly, and now he's ignited the ire of the Internet parenting police once again for tweeting a joke about putting his baby in a cage.

Reynolds tweeted last night about a scary-looking 1930s contraption used to help babies get more sunlight by suspending them in a metal box outside of a window. He jokingly asked if the cages required a permit.

The Internet responded as it does, taking the whole thing extremely seriously. Several people either lashed out at Reynolds or appeared to just plain not understand the joke.

Of course, there were plenty of people who did get the joke and tweeted back hilarious responses of their own.

It has to be hard being a parent in the public eye. Everyone has something to say about every move you make, right down to picking on your baby name and attacking you for silly jokes. The whole baby-wearing fiasco was blown way out of proportion, but at least there was actually an issue to comment on. Going after Reynolds for cracking jokes is just downright ridiculous.

More from The Stir: Ryan Reynolds Admits Bad Baby Wearing Wasn't His First 'Mistake'

I'm a parent myself and I feel like our lives would be so much easier if we could just learn to relax a little bit. We're all doing the best we can. There's no reason to lash out at other moms and dads, especially over something that is clearly intended to generate a laugh.

No, Ryan Reynolds is not going to put his baby in a cage. I don't know the guy, but I feel pretty confident in making that assumption. Let's all kick back and enjoy the actor's dry sense of humor while we wait for him to take his kid out without a coat or use the wrong brand of pacifier.

Do you think we're too hard on celebrity parents?
