Bristol Palin Fights Back: Pregnancy Number 2 Was No Accident

So Bristol Palin may have blown us away by announcing she's pregnant again, but she's not done quite with the curveballs yet. She's made another announcement that may be just as surprising to many: Bristol's second pregnancy was no accident.

"I made a mistake, but it's not the mistake all these giddy a$$holes have loved to assume," she wrote on her blog on the faith-based site Patheos. "This pregnancy was actually planned."

Bristol was slated to marry marine Dakota Meyer in May, but called off the wedding a week before the couple was supposed to tie the knot. Her pregnancy announcement followed a month later.

"Everyone knows I wanted more kids, to have a bigger family," said Bristol, 24, who is mom is 6-year-old son Tripp. "Believing I was heading that way, I got ahead of myself."

More from The Stir: Bristol Palin Finally Breaks Her Silence About Ex-Fiancé Dakota Meyer

Of course, the Bristol haters have been having a field day with all this; one reporter called her second baby an "argument for abortion." Ouch! To be the butt of so many jokes like this must be awful -- and just points to how vicious people can be toward women who become moms under less-than-ideal circumstances (meanwhile, the guy gets off scot-free).

And that's just not fair, because think about it: Bristol was a teen mom, once. But that was seven years ago. A lot has changed since then.

"I’m not 17 anymore, I am 24," she pointed out. "I've been employed at the same doctor's office for over six years now; I own a home; I have a well-rounded, beautiful son."

So then why are we still treating her like some immature, irresponsible teen mom? She's a grown-up; if she wants to have another baby now then who are we to judge?

Unfortunately I think that's often what happens to women who have babies as teens: Even once they grow up and decide to have baby #2, they're still treated like teenagers. The teen-mom stigma is a hard one to shake, even years later once these women are grown up. But that's not their fault, but ours for not seeing them for who they are now.

No doubt, Bristol has grown up a ton in the past seven years. Motherhood can do that, as can being scrutinized in the spotlight. So, let's all try to see her for who she is now -- a grown woman in less-than-ideal circumstances who is nonetheless brave enough to talk about it, and isn't about to take any crap!

What do you think of Bristol Palin's announcement that this pregnancy was planned?
