Bristol Palin Shares 'Disappointing' Pregnancy Announcement

After mounting speculation, Bristol Palin has announced that she's pregnant with her second child. And the 24-year-old single mom to 6-year-old Tripp has made it clear that she's not in the mood for any finger-wagging!

"I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you," she said on her blog. "But please respect Tripp's and my privacy during this time. I do not want any lectures and I do not want any sympathy."

Bristol had planned on tying the knot with Marine Dakota Meyer in May, but had to cancel her wedding a week before she was due to walk down the aisle.

"Tripp and I are in Alaska beginning to rebuild our lives under much different circumstances than we anticipated," she admits.

Well, that's certainly not the giddy "I'm pregnant!" announcement we're used to, is it? But I hafta say, I appreciate the fact that she did not try to sugarcoat this news if she feels it's less than ideal.

My reason: I think it's really, really hard to say anything remotely negative when you're expecting -- i.e., "This was unplanned" or "My family will be disappointed." But if it's the truth, then it's better to say so, rather than hide behind "I'm expecting and I'm sooooo happy!"

I also find it sad that she had to preemptively tell haters to shut it in her pregnancy announcement. Because while SHE has a right to say something negative about her own pregnancy, for anyone else to do so is just vicious. Slamming a pregnant woman is just not right! I mean, clearly, this is going to change her life big-time, and she's not feeling so great about it. Plus, she's brave enough to admit it. So, good for her for telling them to shut up.

Let's hope Bristol's honest, heartfelt announcement drums up what every expectant mom needs: support. And while she doesn't want our sympathy, we can certainly give her props for keeping her chin up.

"Life moves on no matter what," Palin blogged. "So no matter how you feel, you get up, get dressed, show up, and never give up. When life gets tough, there is no other option but to get tougher."

What do you think about Bristol's pregnancy announcement?
