Angelina Jolie Pitt Takes 9-Year-Old Shiloh to Lebanon in Brilliant Parenting Move

You've got to hand it to Angelina Jolie Pitt: Though she and Brad Pitt are raising some of the world's most privileged kids, the mother of six is making sure her children know exactly how fortunate they are -- and how it's their responsibility to help other kids who might not be so fortunate. The actress brought her 9-year-old daughter Shiloh with her on Friday to Lebanon to meet with 12-year-old Syrian refugee girl, and the experience was one Shiloh will likely never forget!

Jolie Pitt met the girl, named Hala, during a trip for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees last year, and decided she was someone Shiloh should meet. As she explained to People magazine:

"Shiloh is very aware that I hold refugee families in high regard and has been asking to come on missions and meet them for many years. She had heard about Hala since my last visit to Lebanon, and has been wanting to meet her and her brothers and sisters. It was wonderful that they were able to meet, play together, and make friends. So many refugees are children. I've often heard them say that the most painful thing is not that they have lost their homes -- it is that they have lost their friends."

So incredibly sad. And such profound food for thought for Shiloh. It's rare that the average American kid (never mind the exceptionally wealthy American celebrity kid) realizes how hard life can be for other kids around the world. I mean, sure, we can tell them -- even show them on TV -- but until someone experiences something firsthand, it's hard to understand what it truly means. So this is really such an extraordinary opportunity Jolie Pitt has as a parent, and she's smart to take advantage of it.

"Upon leaving the family, Shiloh asked many questions," said Jolie Pitt.

"It is of course hard to explain all of the harsh realities of war and displacement. She said she felt sad, but was happy that she went and is looking forward to the next visit."

Well done, Angie! Shiloh will surely follow in her mom's humanitarian footsteps!
