Kate Middleton's Royal Baby Name Officially Announced

The bets are placed and the tables are close because, ladies and gents, the time is here and the royal baby name has been announced: Her Royal Highness the Princess of Cambridge is officially named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana!

Princess Charlotte was born early on May 2, and the world has been waiting on their toes since then for the big baby announcement.

Charlotte was always favorite -- just last week it jumped to the top of the list, and it fits the family M.O. perfectly. It's simple, stately, has easy nicknames, and (most importantly) comes straight from the Windsor family tree: Princess Charlotte of Wales was one of the most beloved future monarchs in history, though she died in childbirth before she could take the throne.

This time around, we got a small tribute to Her Higness's late grandmother Diana with the princess's middle name. After George was born, there was a lot of harumphing that Diana wasn't anywhere to be found in the prince's name, but it does make sense that William and Kate would wait for the second child to honor William's mother.

It'd be interesting to see how the queen feels about that ... but she should be happy that she got a middle name of her own.

And anyways, we love it! Charlotte is a beautiful choice for the little princess, and we can't wait to see how she grows up.

Congratulations to the family!!
