Why Kelly Clarkson Puts Her Foot Down on Letting Baby Sleep With Her

Kelly Clarkson is a hit with my kids -- they love Heartbeat Song and we have to turn it way up every time it comes on the radio. I'm a fan, too. But I'm not so sure my kids would like her parenting style, specifically when it comes to bed sharing. Kelly is adamantly against co-sleeping.

Kelly's daughter River Rose is just 10-months-old, and the 32-year-old mom shared with E!:

A friend of mine was like, 'Our kid sleeps with us every night; it's this whole new way of life,' which is great for her. But in my world, we're sleeping. I don't want my kid rolling over and hitting me in the face. That's not good sleep.

She's been in her own bed, she's never slept with us ever. I'm just very adamant about that, even to create her independence and her own identity and to be safe in her own room. I don't want to create a kid that's stuck to my leg.

While I don't firmly agree that co-sleeping causes a kid being stuck to your leg or interferes with identity, I still think Kelly is doing the right thing. What works for her family, works! She's not wrong, just like I'm not wrong for co-sleeping. She knows her daughter best. She knows what is best for her, and for them as a family. And I will say, that there is some truth to her concern. I co-slept with my twins for the first 9 months of their lives. Sometimes with a co-sleeper. My son was more independent and preferred sleeping on his own, but my daughter wanted me near her all the time. Even when I moved them into their own room, I had to stay in the room until my daughter fell asleep. Different kids, different needs.

My daughter is so used to sleeping with me that she often crawls into bed with me at night. She's 5-years-old now. Some nights, it really affects my much needed sleep, but there are also times when I love having her there to snuggle with. The conflict! That's the thing about parenting, too -- what might be firm one month, might change the next. My daughter may give up wanting to snuggle with me in bed altogether, and that's when I'll miss her cuddles most.

It's obvious Kelly's adorable baby girl is a happy one -- and that new mama glow has not left Kelly either. Here's to all the different styles of parenting -- all of which result in a happy families.

Do you co-sleep with your kids? Do you sometimes wish you didn't?
