The Duggars Give Their Teenage Son a Very Dangerous Gift (PHOTO)

jim bob and michelle duggarThe Duggar family has never kept their beliefs secret. From their stance on dating to sex to religion, they've always been vocal and upfront about their opinions. And now the famous family is defending yet another one of their stances. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar gifted 16-year-old son Jedidiah with a shotgun for Christmas and are now facing massive online criticism.

The stars of 19 Kids and Counting showed off all of the presents their family received during the celebration. And among dolls and lunchboxes was this one gift. Take a look below:

All right, Mom and Dad, now it's time to step up.

Jim Bob Duggar spoke with Radar Online in 2011 and made his views on gun control and ownership very clear:

[Baring arms] is one of our constitutional rights. We believe it is important for children to learn safety about guns and knives. To learn how to use them properly and to learn not to use them to hurt others but to use them as a tool.

Certainly a controversial issue, and this is one extreme holiday gift. Even A Christmas Story can tell us that! But the child has the gun. There's no changing that. Now the onus is 100 percent on Mom and Dad.

It's time for Jim Bob to put his money where his mouth is. By telling the world that the kids are learning to safely handle guns, he's setting a precedent and level of expectation. He needs to follow through and actually teach his son to handle that gun ... and do so safely. With all those other little ones in the house, the first lesson should be in how to responsibly STORE the gun!

That's priority number one. No exceptions.

What do you think is the right age for a kid to get a gun (if any)?
