Drew Barrymore Reveals Her Career Plans Now That She's a Mom

Drew BarrymoreShe's been famous for being on camera since she was 7 years old, but it may finally be time for Drew Barrymore to take a break from acting. The A-list actress opened up to Savannah Guthrie on the Today show on Friday, November 7, and admitted that it might be time to step away from the screen for a bit

"I think I will act less and less," she admitted. "It's hard to be present when you wake up before [the kids] and come home after they've gone to bed. That's just not the way I want to have this journey with my kids at this point in their life. But maybe when they're older, I will feel differently. At this point, I think that it has to be few and far between."

That doesn't mean this powerhouse of female fantastic-ness is slowing down, though. She's just shifting her focus. In addition to acting, she also runs a production company, Flower Films, and she recently launched her Flower cosmetics line -- makeup described as high-quality and affordable.

She described how her perspective changed when she and her hubs Will Kopelman welcomed daughters Olive, 2, and Frankie, 6 months. "The old you is just gone forever," she said. "When you're not with them, you're thinking, 'I should be with them.' When you're with them, it's 'How do I keep you safe?'"

Drew also described how her rocky upbringing has contributed to her mothering. Her infamous past includes drug addiction before she even hit her teens, rehab starting at 13, and eventually emancipation from her mother Jaid Barrymore at just 15 years old.

"I had a very untraditional upbringing, so I looked at it from afar and just thought, 'Well that's the exact opposite of how I'd want to raise my kids,'" she explained. "But it doesn't make me bummed out that I didn't have parents. It's like, well thank god then that I didn't because maybe I wouldn't be this aggressively excited about traditions and values and Christmas cards or Halloween costumes ... and being so present."

"[I'm a] very traditional [mother]. I'm not organized in my life, like, I lose everything and I'm a complete disaster," she added. "With my kids, I really don't accept that for myself because I think kids learn from example of the way you live your life."

It sounds like she has her priorities straight, and is turning out to be a fantastic mother. Not that we expecting anything less. Once she got out of her adolescence, that caring, nurturing part of her personality has always been present. We're just glad she seems so fulfilled these days!
