"What are you having?" seems to be the premier question asked of any and every pregnant woman. From nosy family members to coworkers and even people on the street, it seems like everyone wants to know the sex of the baby. And it was no different for Jennifer Love Hewitt, who decided to keep the sex of her baby a secret. And people got mad. Really, really mad.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hewitt revealed that while she was pregnant with daughter Autumn James, people were not happy that she didn't reveal she was having a girl. And they got nasty about it:

People are mean to you. Everyone. And you're like, 'I'm a pregnant lady, you can't be mean to me.' And they're like, 'Then tell us what your baby is.' And I'm like, 'I don't know.'

Sounds bad, right? Don't worry. It gets worse:

And then they guess, which is insulting for the woman because they're like, 'Oh, well you're really carrying in the backside.' And I'm like, 'I have been carrying in the backside since I was 15. This is not pregnancy. This is just who I am.'

Luckily, Hewitt has a fairly solid solution: "I just avoided people most of my pregnancy and after. And I was happy."

That'll work, right?

More from The Stir: Proof That Jennifer Love Hewitt Chose the Right Dad for Her Baby

Yeah, it's rude. Everyone knows the horror when you ask a woman how far along she is, only to find out that she's not pregnant. The moment is far beyond cringe worthy. And that's bad enough. But visually critiquing a pregnant woman, commenting on the size and shape of her belly and how she's carrying, is quite possibly worse.

And ridiculously rude. No one wants to be sized up, analyzed, and studied. Especially not when you're at such a vulnerable time in your life.

Sure, it may seem sweet. Sometimes, people just want to be more involved in your life and share in the wonderful joys. But come on, can't there be a little more surprise in the world? It won't hurt anyone to wait just a few months to find out if it's a boy or girl. Seriously, we'll all be OK waiting it out.

So the next time you see a pregnant woman, stop and think. Is it appropriate to evaluate her belly, guess the sex, and pester her to reveal what she's having? The answer would be "no." And that's one hard "no."

Did people try to guess your baby's sex? Did you find it annoying?
