Julia Roberts Reveals the Truth About How She 'Does It All' as a Mom

Julia Roberts In TouchAs if we needed another reason to want to fill out an application to be Julia Roberts' best friend. The Oscar-winner graced the cover of InStyle magazine for the September 2014 issue and sat down to chat about her career, motherhood, and what it's like to "have it all."

In short, she doesn't. The down-to-earth actress was quick to point out that she's just like any other working mom who struggles to get everything done, and she doesn't view herself any differently than the millions of other moms who only get to half of their to-do lists on any given day.

The busy mom of three has no problem admitting that she hasn't figured it all out. When asked, "How do you do it all?" the star responded, "I'm not nearly as busy as people think, half of everything just doesn't get done -- as long as no one is in tears, nobody smells bad, and everyone's sleeping peacefully, I've done my job -- and I have a supportive group of girlfriends, a great husband, and an understanding family. The rest gets done with grit, spit, and a whole lot of duct tape."

Amen, sister. She continued, "It's like between grocery shopping, the cooking, and cleaning up everything -- it's a lot ... but it's not anything that millions of other moms don't do all the time, so there's nothing so great about me doing it."

Thankfully, she seems to have a very supportive hubby in her corner with Danny Moder. She says they're on the same parenting page. She dished about how they make their marriage and family life work. "There are only two reasons why people fight: to be right or to create peace and harmony," Roberts said. "If you know which your reason is, that really illuminates why you're having that conversation. Everything that comes out of your mouth should be properly focused on the point at issue and not on what you think the point should be."

It is so nice to hear someone in Hollywood, an A-lister even, not go all sanctimommy on us and pretend like she's got it all together while the rest of us commonfolk struggle to figure it out (I'm looking at you, Gwyneth).

It's almost like Julia's giving us a big hug with her admission and permission to chillax just a little and not worry so much about every little thing. Because she's right -- what's more important? That every sock got folded and the floors get vacuumed daily, or that your kids feel loved and cherished? Besides, I'm pretty sure mismatched socks are the thing now. At least they are in my house. Julia? I'm giving you an air-high-five from over here.

Do you think moms can ever "have it all"?
