Mariah Carey Takes Her Kids to the Park in World's Most Impractical Outfit (PHOTO)

mariah careyWhat do you wear to the park with your kids? Jeans and a T-shirt? A loose maxi dress and flip-flops? Mariah Carey wears a ball gown. Yes, a mermaid-style, tight-fitting, possibly sparkly ball gown. And she's pushing two kids on the swings. Take that, yoga pants-loving moms!

Now, I love me some Mimi and all the cray she brings to the table, but her choice of clothing for the park is, in a word, ri-god-damn-diculous. Save the floor-length designer duds for the Costume Gala or your morning coffee run.

I'm a firm believer in not letting motherhood dictate your style. If you liked foo-foo dresses and sky-high heels before you gave birth, you shouldn't have to auction them off on eBay once you become a mom. But use your brain and wear them when appropriate! Getting a little overdressed for an otherwise casual date night with your husband is completely understandable when you're a mom. But getting overdressed for the park just isn't practical. When we go to the park, we play and run after our kids, correct? I'm not the only person whose child, um, runs at the playground, right? I couldn't imagine going to the park in anything remotely close to what Mimi is wearing here. What would happen if she needed to chase down one of her kids in that get-up?

I think it's fantastic that Mariah, as well as many other moms, don't give up on their style when they become parents. But it's important we dress for the appropriate occasion. Wearing jeans and a T-shirt might not be very fun, but when the situation calls for it, it's probably the best bet. And you know, Mariah, it is possible to dress up jeans and a T-shirt. Jewelry, heels, and lipstick can go a long way.

How has your style changed since becoming a mom?
