Mila Kunis Plans for a Natural Birth -- the Right Way

mila kunisLike many pregnant celebs, Mila Kunis has let it be known that she wants to have a natural birth -- IE, no pain meds for this mama-to-be, thankyouverymuch. Whilst on Ellen recently, the actress said, "The hospital that I’m going to be laboring in does a midwife, you know, doula type of thing. I’m going to do it as all natural as I possibly can unless that there’s an emergency." Great! But she then added this: "I did this to myself, I might as well just do it right. I wanted this!"

Sooo ... getting an epidural is wrong?

Now, before you go and get your disposable mesh panties in a bunch, let me set the record straight: I am not trying to add fuel to the already-existing mommy war of "what's the better way to birth: Naturally or with drugs." To be honest, I don't care how you give birth. But one thing is for absolute certain: There is no wrong way to have a baby.

Toward the end of pregnancy, lots of mothers-to-be draw up detailed birth plans of what they do and don't want during labor and delivery (hi). Whether they're written in calligraphy on a piece of personalized stationary or simply kept in our minds, many of us have a general idea of how we'd like things to go when it's go-time. But, as anyone who's ever given birth can attest, 9 times out of ten, things don't go exactly as we intend. And there's certainly nothing "wrong" with that.

The best piece of advice, in my opinion, that mothers can go into the hospital, birthing pool, or birthing center with is to have an open mind. Don't be so attached to what you think is "right" and "wrong" when it comes to bringing your baby into the world. Because, at the end of the day, that's not what matters. It's your and your baby's health that's of the utmost importance. And, trust me, you don't want to sully the time that's meant for bonding and soaking up your newborn with haunting thoughts telling you that you "messed up."

So, Mila, I hope you have the natural, undrugged birth you're hoping for. But if for some reason you don't, please don't think it's wrong, doll.

Did you have a birth plan? Did you deviate from it?
