Jenelle Evans Shouldn't Have to Try So Hard to Be a Good Mom

Jenelle EvansJenelle Evans, the Teen Mom who is perhaps most infamous for being a terrible parent to her son Jace, is "trying her hardest" to be a better parent now. Though her son lives with her mother and she lives her new boyfriend Nathan Griffith (who can keep up?), she claims Jace visits her on weekends and she is working toward becoming a better parent.

Really, though, it ought not be this difficult. Sure, being a parent is difficult. Any parent will readily tell you that until you have kids that belong to you, you honestly have no idea what it means to be a parent. Every day we make choices for our children about what they eat, what they wear, where they go to school, how they live their lives. It's exhausting and stressful and we all feel guilty about our choices and worry we aren't being worthy of this great gift that has been bestowed upon us. We spend enormous effort worrying we are bad moms.

But really, it's not that hard.

No matter how much we debate working versus staying home and breast versus formula feeding, the reality is any mom who cares enough to debate is probably a "good" mom. Being a good mom is pretty basic.

If you provide a stable home life for your child replete with either one parent and a lot of stable backup or two parents who love one another, make enough money to support the child, and make sure they are clean, well-fed, and sufficiently loved, then you are probably doing OK.

Jenelle hasn't accomplished any of that. Jace has no safe base or person he can completely count on other than his grandmother. His mother has a nearly revolving door of men who she gets engaged to, marries, and then leaves. She shouldn't have to "try" at all to be a good mom. All she needs to do is get herself together.

Being a good parent means being mature. It means making decisions that best benefit both you and your child. Once Jenelle starts that, she won't have to "try her hardest." She just will BE a decent parent.

For the sake of her son, I hope that happens soon.

Do you think Jenelle can ever get it together?
