Madonna's Daughter Lourdes Shares Carlos Leon's Parenting Secret

lourdes leon madonna"Papa Don't Preach" -- oh, the delicious irony! Madonna's kids may get to sing along onstage at their mama's show, but at home, it's another story -- especially for Madonna's 16-year-old daughter, Lourdes. Supposedly Madonna has been the heavy, making sure Lourdes took her studies seriously. Now it's her dad's turn to play bad cop.

A friend of Lourdes' dad, Carlos Leon, says that now that she's dating Homeland actor Timothee Chalamet, Leon has set up strict curfews and rules. He's also asking Timothee all those embarrassing questions dads ask their daughters' boyfriends. Well, good for him! Lourdes should be glad he cares.

The source says:

You would think Madonna was the stricter parent, but she's actually loosened the reigns because she trusts Lourdes so much. On the other hand, Carlos is the watchful dad who's laid down some very stern ground rules for his precious daughter. Madonna was the villain because she was very firm when it came to school studies and manners early on, but that's changed as Lourdes has matured. Now she secretly gets a kick out of it when Lourdes complains to her about the curfew her dad's imposed and all the embarrassing questions he asks her and Timothee. For a change Madonna is not the mean parent!

Because Carlos NEVER wants to hear his daughter sing, "But I've made up my mind/I'm keeping my baaaaaby, oooh, gonna keep my baby." There will be none of that for you, young lady! No getting knocked up while you're still in high school. Not on this dad's watch.

By the way, I can totally see Madonna being a strict parent. But I bet she is having a good laugh right now. It's always a relief for a parent when they get a break from being the stricter one. Still, it sounds like she built a strong foundation with her daughter. That trust is hard to come by. Just because Madonna trusts Lourdes doesn't mean Carlos can trust Timothee.

Things can change quickly once a boyfriend comes into the picture, so he's smart to be on top of things. Of course, being too strict can backfire. I've seen that happen! But I think it's really important for teens to feel like their parents are still paying attention to them and care. I hope Madonna and Carlos are just as strict with their sons, too, by the way. Teens may complain loudly, but I think it hurts more when they feel like their parents are apathetic.

The days of curfews don't last forever. Before she knows it, Lourdes will be an adult and living on her own. Hopefully she'll be a strong, independent young woman who knows both her parents love her.

Do you think Carlos is being too strict with Lourdes, or is he doing the right thing?
