Angelina Jolie Opens School for Girls in Afghanistan -- We Love Her!

angelina jolieI don't generally encourage my kids to look at celebrities as role models, but Angelina Jolie is an outstanding exception to that rule. The actress and mother-of-six is a rarity among the rich and famous, because she actually uses her wealth and status to do good for others. From her work with Syrian refugees to her recent visit with war zone rape victims in the Congo, Jolie is particularly passionate about helping women and children, and her latest effort is the perfect example: Angelina Jolie has opened an all-girls primary school in Afghanistan, a region where girls are traditionally discouraged from getting their education -- to put it mildly. Remember, just a few months ago, 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by Taliban members in neighboring Pakistan for promoting the idea that girls should be allowed to go to school.

So the fact that nearly 300 students are currently enrolled at Angelina's primary school is evidence of a much-needed paradigm shift. And the way she's funding the school -- plus the additional schools she plans to open -- is pretty spectacular.

Jolie is releasing her personally-designed jewelry collection (yup, she's good at just about everything) to retailers for the first time in a collaboration with her longtime jewelry designer, Robert Procop. The Style of Jolie features truly unique pieces -- bold and edgy but understated and classic at the same time -- and 100 percent of the profits will go to towards Jolie's new foundation, The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

How great is it to hear about somebody actually making a difference in people's lives? I can't wait to see what Angelina does next!

If you were a celeb like Angelina Jolie, what kind of charity work would you do?
