Holly Madison Explains 'Weird' Baby Name & It All Makes Sense Now

Holly MadisonThe world has pretty much let former Playboy Playmate Holly Madison know that the baby name she chose for her new little girl is not going to skyrocket to the top of the charts. So now that you're done picking the new mama apart, think you can pause a second and hear why she chose it?

I don't know why people are surprised to hear this, but it turns out Madison and beau Pasquale Rotella put real thought into naming their daughter. Ready to hear the new mom's explanation for naming Rainbow Aurora?

In a post on her blog, Madison struck out the "smug haters" who have attacked her little girl's name. She says it came not from leprechauns or fairy tales but from a kid in her grade school:

She was a perfectly normal, well-adjusted, sporty girl, by the way, so I’m not worried about my daughter being “traumatized” by having an unusual name.

Well, when she puts it that way ...

I am not a big fan of "weird" baby names. Call it a personal problem: I grew up with a "normal" name that was butchered badly by schoolyard bullies. I can only imagine how much worse it is for kids whose names aren't in the baby name books.

But Madison's explanation really made me stop and think. My feelings about names are related to my past experiences. Her feelings about this name are related to her past experiences. Doesn't that put us on equal footing?

Baby names are intensely personal things. And sometimes parents make a mess of them. But Holly Madison's back story for Rainbow Aurora's name is a blatant reminder that most parents are really trying to do the right thing by their kids ... no matter what the rest of us think.

Do you like the name more now that you know where it came from?
