Amber Rose Needs to Get Ready to Dress Like a Mom

Amber Rose and Wiz KhalifaThis past weekend friends and family gathered for the baby shower of Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa. By all accounts (mostly Rose's Twitter account), it was a lovely day to celebrate their son's impending arrival.

She called it a "good ol down home baby shower." "No Papz, no booshiness just Fun, Friends, Family, Food & Good Times," she tweeted. She also posted a string of pictures that show her wearing a hat made of ribbons from the gifts, and sporting one of the ... um, most interesting maternity dresses you've ever seen.

It was tight, white, and covered in colorful squares and letters. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that it was a keyboard. Yep, Rose was wearing one giant keyboard. It was definitely a bold choice, and, love it or hate it, I can't help but think how this is a last hurrah outfit for her of sorts -- whether she knows it or not. Because with motherhood comes mom clothes.

I'm not saying all moms wear "mom jeans" and yoga pants all the time (though many of us wear yoga pants a LOT of the time), nor do I think that you have to throw out your style when you become a mom. But having a baby does change things when it comes to how you dress

For some it's physical. Even if you lose the weight, your body may not look the same in the clothes you used to wear. But more often it's practical. Do you know how dirty a keyboard dress would get if I wore it even for a few hours? My children's sticky fingerprints would be all over it as they pressed my buttons time and again.

I adore shopping and fashion and haven't given up on style since I've had kids, but I have adjusted my style big time -- even doing things I said I'd NEVER do. Stilettos that I used to adore and swore I'd never abandon now cause me to physically wince when I even see other women wearing them. White is no longer a color in my closet; and really anything that has to be ironed or dry cleaned I save for special occasions. Also anything that could pinch, bind, or result in a crotch shot whilst bending and trying to scoop up a screaming toddler from the floor is pretty much out. I still try to look cute, but it's a different kind of cute since having kids.

Sure there are special occasions in which the kids are left behind, and for a star like Rose, she may have more occasions than most to strut her personal style any way she likes. But there are still your kids to consider at times like that. Are you showing too much? Are you setting a good example? Are you embarrassing the hell out of them?

So it will be interesting to see what kind of changes Rose makes after she has the baby. I certainly don't expect to see her sporting mom jeans anytime soon, but it may be her last keyboard dress for awhile.

How has your style changed since having kids?
