'RHOC' Gretchen Rossi's Baby Plans Could Be Heartbreaking

Gretchen Rossi and Slade SmileyIn the up-and-down roller coaster of a relationship between Real Housewives of Orange County Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley, things are apparently looking up. So up, in fact, that Gretchen has announced to the world that she's ready to procreate, and she and Slade are working on having a baby.

That's a pretty big change of heart from this past summer, when it seemed like they were headed for splitsville for good. So you've got to wonder about the change of heart, and, more importantly, why is she talking about getting pregnant now before she is, especially with a pretty big complication in their way.

She told OK! magazine:

We’re working really hard right now to have a baby. He actually has a vasectomy so he has to get a reversal and we have to kind of figure that all out.

According to WebMd, the chances for pregnancy after a vasectomy vary depending on how long ago the procedure was performed, but range between 30-50 percent. So there's no guarantee that they will be able to get pregnant together, which makes it even more cringe-worthy that she's talking about her plans now.

I get that once you make that decision that you want a baby, you want the world to know. But there's a lot that has to happen between wanting a baby and getting a baby, and putting your plan out there to the masses can also put you under a lot of pressure when it doesn't happen right away. All eyes will be on her belly now looking for any signs of a bump, and if it takes a while or they have complications, that can be hard. You may think you can handle all the disappointment and would want people to know what you're going through regardless, but you don't really know until you're there.

Also, is this really the best time to be taking about this when Slade's son, Grayson, is battling a brain tumor? I mean it's one thing if she got pregnant, but to be all over the news talking about how bad she wants a baby and a possible wedding just seems a little crass.

In the end I hope it works out for them if that's what they want. I still worry about Slade's financial problems and what that means for Gretchen and the life she wants, but sometimes none of it matters when you feel that clock ticking.

Did you tell people about your plans to start trying for a baby?
