Tom Cruise Files $50 Million Lawsuit Against Tabloid for Calling Him a Bad Dad

tom and suriYou can take pot shots at his marriages, but don't mess with his parenting skills! That is the message Tom Cruise is sending by filing a $50 million lawsuit against Life & Style magazine.

After his split with Katie Holmes, the tabloid reported that he'd essentially abandoned his 6-year-old daughter Suri. It's a claim that has infuriated the Mission: Impossible star -- and I don't blame him one bit.

Wacky couch jumping incidents aside, Cruise has always appeared to be a dedicated dad. There were reports that he was blindsided by the divorce and heartsick over his ex whisking Suri off to New York City. Divorce is difficult under the best of situations -- just imagine the world watching as you hash out the details of a heartbreaking split and custody arrangements.

Tom Cruise is definitely getting the raw end of this deal. It appears as though Holmes and Cruise have done their best to ensure that their daughter Suri is well cared for during the short legal battle. But every divorced parent feels a tremendous amount of guilt about what the situation does to their child. Why couldn't things work out? What happened? How have I gone from being a daily presence to seeing my kids a couple of times a week, if that?

Divorce isn't easy for anyone, even celebrities like Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. And to have a magazine claim that Tom Cruise has "abandoned" his 6-year-old daughter Suri is a vile way to sell magazines. Cruise, said his lawyer Bert Fields, "is not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue."

Frankly, I completely get this reaction. As far as Cruise is concerned, his relationship with Suri isn't up for debate. He claims that any money he gets from the lawsuit will go directly to charity. And I, for one, applaud him for taking a stand for himself and for divorced parents everywhere. But most of all, for Suri.

Do you think Tom Cruise should sue this magazine or is he overreacting?
