Angelina Jolie Takes Shiloh and Zahara to Get Their Ears Pierced

shiloh jolie-pitt, angelina jolie, zaharaShe's a smart girl, that Shiloh Jolie-Pitt! When Angelina Jolie took daughters Zahara, 6, and Shiloh, 5, to get their ears pierced in London recently, Zahara was first in line. So of course Shiloh was going to change her mind about the procedure when she saw her big sister scream and burst into tears! Can you blame her? That looks like fun, sign me up!

In my opinion, 5 and/or 6 are the perfect ages for little girls to get their ears pierced, but that's only because I was 6 when I got my ears pierced and my daughter was, too.

It's funny, because it seems like no matter how many parenting decisions we choose to make differently than our own parents did, we largely stick to family tradition when it comes to ear-piercing.

I've known moms who pierced their baby daughters' ears before they were christened; I've known moms who, though not generally "old-fashioned" in other respects, insisted their daughters wait until they were 12 or older to get their ears pierced.

I know in the case of my daughter, the fact that she got her ears pierced at the same age I did was largely coincidental: I didn't make the suggestion; she approached me about it. And it seemed like a reasonable request.

Ironically, now that she's 10, she barely remembers to even wear earrings most of the time. For that matter, neither do I.

So I think Angelina made the right move -- in the end, her girls decided for themselves.

How old do you think girls should be when they get their ears pierced?
