Zuma Rossdale Gets a Mani-Pedi Like a True Rock Star

zuma rossdaleZuma Rossdale rocks outNothin' goes better with a Captain America costume than a matching blue-and-red mani-pedi, am I right? I know Zuma Rossdale agrees with me: Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale's son had a salon session fit for a superhero this weekend, just in time for his third birthday.

How cute is that? Personally, I never understood the big fuss about little boys wanting to paint their nails.

So what?

Kids like color, especially when it comes in a nifty little bottle with its own built-in brush.

Even better that it doesn't wash off in the bathtub like the magic marker "tattoos" so painstakingly applied to such highly visible parts of the body as the forehead.

When my son, who is four years younger than my daughter, was a toddler, I generally obliged him when he asked to paint his toenails like his big sister. Of course, my daughter, already familiar with societal gender conventions, would only allow him to borrow her black or neon green polish, but whatever.

Besides, how anyone could raise an eyebrow at the child of two rock stars getting his nails done is beyond me. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, you know. Plus, rock stars (and by extension, their children) are supposed to think outside the box when it comes to style.

Need proof? Allow me to use the same example I gave my daughter when she found her 2-year-old brother doing a bang-up job of making his lips appear fuller (think The Joker) with lipstick he found in Mommy's bag.

"Boys don't wear makeup!" she shrieked in alarm.

"Now, you know that's not true," I chided her. "David Bowie used to wear makeup all the time."

Ziggy played guitar ... hey, Ziggy and Zuma! Pretty close! Coincidence? Or fate ...

Don't you think Zuma looks cute with his mani-pedi?
