When it comes to celebrity couples, we're used to a lot of Hollywood love stories coming with so many ups and downs. (They can definitely be a serious emotional roller-coaster for the fans who have been invested in them!) And when it comes to the relationship between Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green? Well, it's really hard to keep the timeline straight. Their love story goes all the way back to 2004, and now, more than 16 years later -- from the first time they met on the set of Hope & Faith -- a lot has gone down since then ... and things continue to change practically on a daily basis.

Not only have these two been engaged twice, but they were also in the process of getting a divorce ... until they weren't. And now, years after their initial divorce filing, and the 2019 filing where they attempted to call that divorce off, Megan and Brian are on the outs again -- with Megan even starting up a new relationship with rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

It's enough to make our heads spin when we try to figure out exactly where they stand!

So much has happened in the time they've been together, least of all the births of their three children -- Noah, 7, Bodhi, 6, and Journey, 4 -- and it's hard to say where the future will take them. Will they end up getting divorced for real this time and end up apart forever, or will they find their way back to each other again this time like they have in the past?

Only time will tell, but in the meantime, here's a primer on everything that's gone down between Megan and Brian over the years.

2004: First Meeting

Brian and Megan met for the first time in 2004 on the set of Hope & Faith, when she was 18 and he was 30. During a podcast appearance in 2009, Brian admitted that he was initially hesitant to date her because of how young she was. But she was persistent, and he eventually gave in when he realized how much he didn't want her to date anyone else.

2009: Calling Off Their Engagement

After that fateful first meeting on set, Brian and Megan got engaged four years later, in 2008, after seeing each other on-and-off. But in 2009, they called off their engagement, with sources close to the couple telling People that they'd remained friends, and deciding not to move forward with their wedding plans had been a mutual decision.

June 2010: 'I Do'

Their split didn't last long! Megan and Brian decided to make it official in 2010, when they tied the knot on June 24 in Hawaii. As People reported at the time, they got married at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, with their only witness being Brian's son, Kassius, who was 8 years old at the time.

Talk about an intimate, romantic setting!

September 2012: Hello, Noah

Two years into their marriage, Megan and Brian officially started their family. On September 27, 2012, Noah Shannon Green was born, and Megan shared an announcement on her Facebook page.

"We have been very lucky to have had a peaceful few weeks at home, but I would like to release this myself before others do," she wrote. "I gave birth to our son Noah Shannon Green on September 27th. He is healthy, happy, and perfect."

February 2014: Welcoming Bodhi

Two years later, Noah became a big brother. On February 12, 2014, Bodhi Ransom Green was born, with the news breaking when TMZ obtained his birth certificate. This made them a family of four. At that point, it seemed like everything was going well in their relationship, but it wouldn't be long before the cracks would begin to show.

In 2015, Megan Filed for Divorce

A little after a year after Bodhi's birth, Megan filed for divorce from Brian, citing irreconcilable differences. Megan was seeking joint custody of their sons at the time, and it really seemed like they were going their separate ways for good. But little did they (and we) know what the future held, because a huge surprise was around the corner: their third son.

2016: Megan Is Pregnant Again

In 2016, Megan was spotted with a baby bump, and news quickly spread that she was pregnant again -- which was a bit surprising, considering the fact that she and Brian were getting divorced. Some fans speculated who the father might be, which led to her posting this collage on Instagram of her former co-stars, letting everyone know who the father definitely was not.

Reconsidering Their Split

After news of Megan's pregnancy broke, a source told E! News that divorce was off the table -- at least for the time being -- because she and Brian had started getting along again and were excited about raising a third child together.

"Brian and Megan have been working on themselves as individuals and things have gotten better between them as a couple," the source said. "They have been getting along great. They are best friends and know each other very well."

August 2016: Enter Journey

On August 4, 2016, Megan gave birth to baby No. 3, a third boy, named Journey River Green. At that point, it seemed like Megan and Brian were pretty much back together and raising their three sons as a couple. Things between the two of them were better than they had been for a while -- and that's how it would stay ... for a few years, anyway.

April 2019: Megan Files to End Divorce

A split between these two officially seemed like a thing of the past when, in April 2019, Megan filed to dismiss their divorce -- the first time any documentation related to the case had been filed since the original filing back in 2017. This seemed to be the signal that these two were back together for good that we were all waiting for, but another surprise was waiting a year later.

11/16

Done Having Kids

In early 2020, Brian admitted that he was pretty sure he and Megan were done having kids after the three they'd had together, because the ones they had were so young and he felt like their family was complete. "No, not more kids," he told Us Weekly at the time. "The kids I have right now are fine. It’s enough! I have four kids, three young kids."

April 2020: Split Rumors

In April 2020 -- exactly a year after Megan filed to have their divorce dismissed -- Brian was spotted without his wedding ring, sparking split rumors right back up again. It didn't help that around the same time, he and Megan were also rumored to be living in two different cities and were seen exchanging their kids in a grocery store parking lot.

It definitely wasn't looking good!

Megan Begins Dating Machine Gun Kelly

Another bad sign that pointed to a split between these two: Megan was seeing someone else. It started with rumors that they were more than just friends, and then the Instagram posts like this one began cropping up just weeks later, and it was more than obvious that they were together romantically.

This is when things really started to get interesting...

June 2020: Brian Spotted With Someone New

Brian was spotted with Courtney Stodden, the controversial 25-year-old reality star who was once married to Doug Hutchison. They were seen holding hands in a restaurant in Los Angeles, and even though some sources say that they're just friends, the photos that have surfaced seem to say otherwise. At this point, it's hard to say where this will go.

15/16

Brian Trolls Megan

Even though Brian might have moved on, he still seems to be having a hard time dealing with Megan's new love. After Megan posted a photo with MGK on Instagram, captioning it "Achingly beautiful boy... my heart is yours," Brian took it upon himself to troll his ex by doing the same: using the caption for a post all about his sons instead.

August 2020: Hard Time Coping With Megan's New Relationship

A source close to the former couple has told People that Brian is having a hard time coping with the fact that Megan has moved on so quickly and so publicly, before they're even officially divorced. The insider told the outlet:

"Brian is annoyed that she is so focused on her relationship with Machine Gun Kelly. He doesn't understand the need to post social media pictures with silly captions to proclaim her love for him. They aren't even divorced yet. It definitely annoys Brian. And it stings a bit too that Megan moved on so quickly. Megan was always very private, so Brian just doesn't get what changed."

Sounds like things could definitely get messy (messier) from here.
