Although we felt bad for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their recent documentary, Harry and Meghan: An African Journey, we must admit, we loved how open Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were, speaking about everything from baby Archie to Harry's contentious relationship with his brother.

Not everyone, however, was a fan of the Sussex's candor. In fact, many members of the royal family -- including many senior members -- were completely floored with how candidly Harry and Meghan spoke. And if we're being honest, we can't really say we're shocked that they were shocked. The Firm isn't exactly known for its informality.

  • Since Harry and Meghan's documentary aired, we've been hearing mixed reports on how the royal family responded.

Some stories said everyone -- particularly Kate Middleton, who "reached out" to Meghan -- felt bad for Harry and Meghan, whereas other reports said the Queen is "frustrated" with their behavior.

To be honest, we're not sure what's true. However! One thing we don't find all that hard to believe is Prince Charles and Prince William being floored at how personal the Sussexes got on camera.

  • According to 'E! News,' Charles and William were "astonished" that Harry and Meghan opened up as much as they did.

A royal source told the outlet that although their hearts go out to Harry, they're also somewhat exasperated at the "constant [emotional] management" he requires, and they were shocked to hear that the circumstances surrounding Princess Diana's death continue to be "a wound that festers."

They were "fairly astonished," the insider said.

"There also seems to be a lot of bemusement within the royal family about what exactly Harry and Meghan are trying to achieve, as members of the royal family do not usually speak in such detail about personal matters," the source continued. "It's fair to say that there is a deep sense of unease in the royal households about the direction this is all headed."

  • Even though we're definitely behind a more modern, open royal family -- again -- we can't say we're surprised by Charles and William's reactions.

In the last few years, Prince William and Kate Middleton have certainly done a good job of modernizing the monarchy and ditching the stiff upper lip routine, but we've never seen anyone in the royal family speak so freely like that.

  • The next time we see the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will supposedly be in 2020, so perhaps the dust will have settled by then.

In addition to the royal family reportedly being surprised by Harry and Meghan's interview, they were also none too pleased with their decision to ditch Christmas at Sandringham this year. But again, who knows what's really true?

Whether Charles, William, and the rest of the royals are annoyed with the Sussexes for spending the holidays in the States or not, one thing is for sure: Everyone in the royal family can probably use a little time apart.
