Every year, as the holidays draw near, the schedules of the royal family slow down a bit. And this year, that's particularly true for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are reportedly taking a much-needed sabbatical in November and December to recharge their batteries and spend time as a family. So, that being said, the Duke of Sussex may have just made his final appearance of 2019 -- and might we say, a good appearance it was.

See you on the other side, Harry!

  • On Monday, the duke attended the OnSide Awards, which took place at Royal Albert Hall in London.

While there, Harry gave a speech praising the achievements of the young people, staff, and volunteers who were in attendance. After the event, the Sussex Instagram page posted a few photos from the emotional night, along with this message:

"The Duke of Sussex attended the inaugural OnSide Awards at the @RoyalAlbertHall this evening, joining over 2,500 youth, volunteers and staff of @OnSideYZ. These awards celebrate the young people who have gone above and beyond for their communities, many of whom have overcome the most challenging of circumstances.

With 13 Youth Zones around the UK and over 50,000 members, OnSide is making an incredible impact in some of the most deprived communities. During visits to OnSide Youth Zones earlier this year, The Duke and Duchess had the chance to witness the impact these facilities are having – providing local youth with a safe space where they can learn new skills, develop lasting friendships and be part of a shared and supportive community. #OnSideAwards"

  • In addition to the night being special because of the charity Harry was supporting, it also was tinged with a bit of gravitas since it may be the last time we see Harry for a while.

After an emotional roller coaster of a year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly taking a month and a half off, which means we may not see them until next year -- especially if they aren't in the UK for Christmas this year.

A number of reports have claimed that Harry and Meghan will be spending the holidays -- Thanksgiving and Christmas -- in the States, so Meghan can be with her family and friends, away from the prying eyes of the British media.

  • Although the palace released a statement saying the Queen was OK with Harry and Meghan's decision to skip Christmas this year, insiders say otherwise.

According to People, Queen Elizabeth is "disappointed" that Harry and Meghan won't be at Sandringham for Christmas this year.

That said, Harry and Meghan aren't budging.

“As it’s Archie’s first Christmas, they want it to be super special," a source said. “It’ll be just Doria and the three of them. The drama surrounding the couple has caused a huge amount of stress. They’re making their family their number one priority right now.”

  • It's certainly unfortunate that we won't catch a glimpse of Meghan and Harry (and Archie!) during this year's royal Christmas, but hey, we get it.

Meghan and Harry have been through the wringer this year -- particularly the last few months -- so if they want to be alone, who can blame them?
