There were a few bombshells from the new documentary on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Harry & Meghan: Journey to Africa. For one, Prince Harry, in so many words, admitted that he basically shudders every time he hears the click of a paparazzi camera, as it brings him back to his mother's death. Two, Meghan's nickname for Harry evidently is "H." Adorable. And three, Meghan Markle's friends told her not to date Prince Harry.

What!?

  • While speaking with journalist Tom Bradby, the Duchess of Sussex revealed her American friends were happy for her -- her British friends, not so much.

    The reason? The British media.

"It's hard. I don't think anyone can understand that, but in all fairness, I had no idea, which sounds difficult to understand here," she said. "But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy. But my British friends said to me, 'I'm sure he's great, but you shouldn't do it, because the British tabloids will destroy your life.'"

  • Obviously, Meghan didn't listen to them -- and she didn't think she needed to!

Evidently, Meghan didn't understand the scope of the relentless media in the UK when it comes to the royal family.

"[I said], 'What are you talking about?'" she said to Bradby, "'That doesn't make any sense. I'm not in tabloids.' I didn't get it."

    Obviously, she gets it now.

  • At first, the duchess tried to stay silent about all the rumors. But eventually, it got to be too much.

"I think I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip. I tried, I tried. But I think what that does internally is probably really damaging," she said. "The biggest thing I know is that I never thought this would be easy. But I thought it would be fair. And that's the part that's really hard to reconcile, but I don't know."

The duchess added: "When people are saying things that are just untrue, when they're being told they're untrue but still say them, I don't know anyone in the world who would feel like that's okay. And that's different from just scrutiny, that's ... it's a different beast."

  • In the end, it all worked out, as Harry and Meghan are obviously very in love and now they have little baby Archie in their family.

But still. It can't be easy.

It's doubtful Meghan ever regrets following the advice of her British friends. But once in a while, she must look back with the full knowledge of what they were talking about.
