Netflix is known for discovering talent. The streaming site is responsible for bringing its viewers stars like Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown, Orange is the New Black's Uzo Aduba, and The Crown's Claire Foy -- catapulting them to award-winning levels of fame. And this year's rising stars on Netflix originals have a lot to look forward to if they can stay on their current career trajectories.

Unsurprisingly, several of the notable up-and-coming stars were again brought to audiences' attention this year by Stranger Things, which has a knack for finding super talented young actors and helping them shine. Others appeared on the devastating true crime series When They See Us, which was created by Selma director Ava DuVernay.

No matter what show or movie they appeared in, these 15 young Netflix stars all have one major thing in common: They're all taking the industry by storm in 2019.

Ever since Netflix started offering original content, it has excelled in the genre. Many of Netflix's shows and movies have become critical successes as well as fan favorites. Netflix actors go on to win Emmys and Golden Globes out the wazoo. The streaming site has always had an eye for good stories and finding the right actors to tell those stories.

And, it's never afraid to take a chance on an unknown.

Some of these rising stars never acted before Netflix plucked them out of obscurity. After a season or two with the streaming site, they can go on to land even bigger projects. Netflix is both a home and a stepping stone for young actors hoping to make a splash in the film and TV field, and these 15 names won't be forgotten any time soon.

  • Priah Ferguson

    1

Priah Ferguson plays Lucas' sister, Erica, on Stranger Things, and she's a total scene stealer. In the third season, this 13-year-old star had so many great lines and facial expressions that she even out-acted some of the older teens and adults on the show. Fingers crossed that she'll be back for season four.

  • Maya Hawke

    2

Stranger Things has no shortage of talented rising stars, but Maya Hawke was one of the standouts of season three. As the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, great acting seems to just run in her blood. Maya played Steve's Scoops Ahoy co-worker, Robin, on Stranger Things, and she totally nailed the balance of serious and silly in her scenes.

  • Asante Blackk

    3

Asante Blackk's first-ever acting role was on Netflix's When They See Us where he played young Kevin Richardson. He was nominated for an Emmy for that role. After that, he landed a role on the hit show This Is Us where he plays Malik. If he looks familiar, it may also be because he's Orange is the New Black star Samira Wiley's nephew. That family has some awesome acting genes.

  • Sammi Haney

    4

Raising Dion just hit Netflix on October 4, and already, Sammi Haney is all anyone can talk about. Sammi plays Esperanza on the show, and Raising Dion was her first acting role. But there are sure to be more offers on her way after her scene-stealing performance as Dion's friend.

KENS5 reports Sammi has a genetic disorder that causes her bones to be brittle, but she doesn't let that hold her back from anything -- including her newfound passion for acting. The outlet notes that Sammi and her father also created a T-shirt line that features inspiring messages about disability on the clothing. (She even wore one on the show.)

Her parents want Raising Dion to help educate viewers about people with disabilities, and Sammi's T-shirts, engaging social media channels, and overall persona help spread that message far and wide.

  • Malina Weissman

    5

After acting for just a few years, Malina Weissman landed a lead role on Netflix's adaptation of the Series of Unfortunate Events books. She played the super smart inventor Violet Baudelaire for all three seasons of the show and captured the attention of viewers everywhere. She's definitely a young celeb to watch!

  • Amybeth McNulty

    6

Anne of Green Gables got a gritty makeover in this Netflix series adapted from the books. Amybeth McNulty plays the lead role of Anne Shirley with all the gravitas of Megan Follows from the original movie series. The third season of the show, Anne -- or Anne with an E -- is slated to hit Netflix in January 2020. It will be a can't miss, thanks mostly to Amybeth's acting skills alone.

  • Elias Harger

    7

Fuller House brought back many of the original Full House stars who are now adults, but the show also added a brand new set of kids to the series. One of the standout roles is Max Fuller, played by Elias Harger. It was his first major job, and he steals the show in every scene he's in. His one-liner delivery and comedic timing is so on point for an 11-year-old.

Fans can catch his last turn as Max in Fuller House's final season, which is likely coming to Netflix sometime this year or early 2020.

  • Tati Gabrielle

    8

It may be called the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but another character steals the show on the Netflix series. Tati Gabrielle plays a witch named Prudence Night who's much more than the surface-level villain she was initially introduced as. She's a worthy antagonist to Kiernan Shipka's Sabrina Spellman, and a worthy acting companion for the Mad Men star, too.

Tati embodies the dark witch's persona so well we'd almost believe she really was magic.

  • Isabella Gomez

    9

Netflix may have canceled One Day at a Time, but nothing can cancel the love fans have for Isabella Gomez. She played Elena Alvarez on the series, tackling tough subjects like LGBTQ issues, discrimination, and more, with grace. The show was recently saved by PopTV, so her dynamic character and thoughtful acting isn't going anywhere soon.

    Thank goodness!

  • Brandon Flynn

    10

Every season, it seems like 13 Reasons Why gives Brandon Flynn an even more complex story line to tackle. Brandon plays Justin on the show and has portrayed the character through some very heavy topics. Brandon never backs down from his complicated role, and his storytelling shines in his acting. His character arc may have been the product of the writing team, but Brandon is the one who makes it work on screen.

When 13 Reasons Why ends after season four, expect big things from this actor.

  • Kristine Froseth

    11

Last year, Vanity Fair called Kristine Froseth "practically the face of Netflix." She's appeared in two original Netflix movies, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and Apostle, and the recent Netflix series The Society. Clearly, she's a Netflix darling with a big future ahead of her if the streaming site keeps casting her in basically everything.

  • Isabel May

    12
Alexa & Katie star Isabel May landed on IMDb's list of "Top 100 Up and Coming Teen and Young Actors" for 2019, and for good reason. The actress went from a no-name to a huge star overnight after being cast in Alexa & Katie, her first-ever acting role. Her story of being plucked from obscurity and cast on a Netflix show led Terroir Magazine to call her journey "a miracle in Hollywood."
  • Brett Gray

    13

Netflix's On My Block follows a group of high-schoolers in the inner city of Los Angeles, but Brett Gray (on the left) stands out as the nerdy Jamal Turner. Fader magazine lauded Brett's performance, calling his character "the sassy ball of energy who steals the show with slapstick skills and impeccable comedic timing." After On My Block, Gray went on to shine in another Netflix project, When They See Us. He played Clarence.

  • Anna Cathcart

    14

Anna Cathcart (on the far left) rose to overnight stardom for a mass audience in Netflix's To All the Boys I've Loved Before. The 16-year-old played Lara Jean's younger sister, Kitty Covey, and totally stole every scene she was in. Anna's masterful portrayal helped land her on Teen Vogue's 21 Under 21 list for 2018. She's soon to be seen in the movie's sequel, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.

  • Siena Agudong

    15

It's hard to stand out on a show when paired with longtime A-list actors -- like Sabrina the Teenage Witch's Melissa Joan Hart, and The Goonies' Sean Astin -- but Siena Agudong does just that on Netflix's No Good Nick. She plays the lead role of Nicole "Nick" Franzelli, a con artist with a ton of tricks up her sleeve and lots of scenes to steal. Sadly, the show was cancelled after 20 episodes, but there's certainly more on the horizon for its rising star, Siena.
