Prince William and Kate Middleton are off for last summer hurrah, along with their three young kiddos, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, and they're traveling in style. Budget style, that is. In the aftermath of the brouhaha over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle flying on a private jet, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge decided to travel to Scotland via an affordable commercial airline.

  • The royal family of five took flight on budget airline FlyBe on Friday, from Norwich International Airport to Aberdeen Airport.

The tickets reportedly cost just under $90 each, and it's unclear if 16-month-old Louis traveled as a lap baby. At that price though, they probably sprung for the extra seat! The Cambridges were escorted directly onto the plane from the tarmac, and were whisked away upon landing, to visit Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at Balmoral.

  • The move came after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were widely criticized for flying on a private jet to vacation in Italy.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex came under enormous scrutiny in recent days for their decision to fly on Elton John's private jet to vacation in his Italian home. Fans were concerned that Harry and Meghan weren't living their beliefs, as they are outspoken advocates for the environment -- to the point where they've said they'll only have two children because of environmental concerns.

  • Several famous friends came to the Sussexes' defense, including Elton John himself.

Meg's own BFF Jessica Mulroney said critics were just being "racist bullies," and Ellen DeGeneres said Harry and Meghan were completely down-to-earth when she met them with her wife, Portia de Rossi, recently. Meghan's friend and actress Jameela Jamil even claimed it would be "dangerous" for them to fly commercial.

Elton John said that as one of the late Princess Diana's closest friends, he felt a special obligation to Harry and his young family, and wanted them to have a relaxing vacation. He also said that made sure the "flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint."

  • You know who didn't comment on Harry and Meghan's private jet travel? His brother and sister-in-law.

They just took off for Scotland on a budget airline.

We're just saying -- this probably won't help those ongoing feud rumors
