Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Gain a New Honor

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle

It's only been a few months since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle started their own Instagram account after splitting off from Prince William and Kate Middleton, but it's already making a big mark on the world. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were just recognized by Time magazine in its annual roundup of the 25 Most Influential People on the internet.

  • Meghan and Harry launched their own Instagram page in April, just one month before baby Archie was born.

The account's launch coincided with their move from Kensington Palace in London to Frogmore Cottage at Windsor Castle, as well as their move to establish themselves separately from Prince William and Kate Middleton.

According to People magazine, their account broke records by gaining 1 million followers in only six hours. By mid-July it had more than 9 million followers.

  • Harry and Meghan have taken a unique approach to their account, which is one of the reasons Time magazine highlighted them.

"While baby photos are among @SussexRoyal's draws, most posts are dedicated to the pair's work as royals," wrote Time's Raisa Bruner. "Each month, in an effort to highlight advocates and organizations focusing on issues such as climate change and mental health awareness, the account rotates the users it follows -- a savvy strategy that has driven headlines."

She added, "The Sussexes' forward-thinking, cause-oriented approach to social media fits neatly with other ways they are establishing their identity beyond the crown."

  • Sure, sure, we love how cause-oriented they are, and their obvious passion for humanitarianism, but really we can't get enough of this baby.

Confession: As part of my job as an entertainment writer and editor, I get a lot of alerts when various celebrities are mentioned online. And every time I see an alert that the Sussex Instagram account has made a post, I drop whatever I'm doing to click over and see if it's a new photo of Archie. He is just too cute!

  • Of course we can't help but wonder if Harry and Meghan's latest honor will fuel the rift rumors between her and sister-in-law Kate Middleton.

Despite the duchesses seemingly cheery outing at Wimbledon over the weekend, rumors of a feud between these two have been raging since before Harry and Meghan even tied the knot in 2018.

An we can't help but notice that Will and Kate's Instagram account was not featured on Time's Top 25 list this year. Given that Kate is already supposedly "jealous" of Meghan's social ease, it might not be a fun pill for her to swallow.

Or you know, their feud is just a rumor, and Kate offered Meghan her heartfelt congratulations. We're going with that theory.
